Information regarding the dates is vague but a relatively accurate timeline of events is possible.
Before the Series[]
History[]
The Cataclysm happened approximately 300 years before the start of the novels. As nuclear and biological war threatened to destroy Earth, underground bunkers and outer space were the only options for survival.
Several hundred people managed to escape to space and form the Colony space station. Other survivors hid in the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center, an underground bunker, in Virginia, US. 250 years later, the Mount Weather survivors, known as Earthborns, returned to the ground and created a village.
