  • Hi Janus, knowing you are an advanced admin on this wiki, do you know how to deal with trollers who use VPNs to avoid IP bans? More specifically, a site called "Nord VPN". This hacker is on another wiki I enjoy editing and it apparently stated that it is using this very website to sockpuppet.

One of the admins already blocked him. I do not know if it was prevented from making an alternative, but it returned.

So do you know how to deal with these types of situations?

    • Once they go on a VPN, it's basically a game of whack-a-mole. You can contact FANDOM staff, but last I heard, they don't have any automatic tools to deal with this.

      Some other options:

      • If this person has specific pages they go after, semi-protect those pages.
      • If person is using IPs within specific range, do a range block.
      • If this IP is too much of pain, then disable IP edits on the entire wiki (option is in Special:WikiFeatures, "Require all contributors to log in") – while this can be easily circumvented by creating new accounts, it creates an extra hurdle for the vandal.

But at the end of the day, until the vandal gets tired, it's whack-a-mole. Sorry, I wish I could give a more positive response.

    • Looking at those threads, it looks like a whack-a-mole situation. I've been dealing with that here too - a troll that's been sending offensive, vulgar, and threatening messages to one specific user on this wiki. They used at least six usernames here, plus they target specific other users on a dozen other wikis. So each time I encounter this person, I block him locally and submit a ticket to FANDOM staff to get him globally blocked (so he can't continue his trolling on other wikis - if the troll is on a single wiki, then no need for global block).
