  • Beckham Skodje obviosuly couldn't play Ethan as a preteen because he wasn't the appropriate age since he's clearly still in early grade school while St. John Myers is notcebaly in either middle school or Jr high. Making it impossible for the same child actor to stay in the same role after a time jump! You could argue the same about Lina Renna playing a younger Madi but with the case of Ethan they did the reverse first they casted a young child actor Beckham Skodje in this case and Ethan's character naturally aged during the Time Jump who grew up to be St. John Myers's version of Ethan. I have brought this up with the admins already, but basically have gotten nowhere with them so I wanted to what the rest of you guys think about this.

    • The character it's self was still recasted.

    • A recast due to character aging is still a recast - though one explained by storyline vs issue with cast member (e.g. cast member's schedule, fit for the role / acting ability, salary disagreement, etc). Beckham Skodje was cast as Ethan in season 4 - he wasn't just cast for a flashback scene - he was cast as Ethan. For season 5, they needed to age Ethan by six years, so they recast the character with an older actor. This is completely separate from situations where an actor was already cast and then they cast a child for a flashback scene but primary actor was cast beforehand and remains afterwards.

    • I like to think of it the actors showcasing Ethan at different stages of his short life. I know that there was a time jump but they couldn't make Beckham  Skodje stay on as Ethan realistically and claim oh he just had his twelve birthday. No they had to have St. John Myers as an age process Ethan  (even he clearly looked dissimliar to Skodje, but whatever on that) who clearly belonged to the sub divsion of Concrete Operational Stage (Freud's childhood development). Someone growing up after that brief flashback to when Jaha was still alive shouldn't count as a recast because in Hollywood for longer productions puppies and human babies are constantly switch out as they outgrow their roles and that's not made a big deal because growing up is a natural part of life and I know some child actors stay on with their shows because they're the primary actor but you cannot handwave a huge time jump and not get a age appropriate actor.

    • It might not good enough explain, but Ethan was already 5 years old when he first appears in season 4, but it was not in flashback, but if the Beckham was cast as 5 years old in season 5, not in flashback, he was already cast before older actor cast as older Ethan appears. Like the actor of Young Bellamy and Octavia appears in flashback, but it doesn’t mean that they recast then recast back to Bob and Marie. And If young Madi appears before older Madi, it would be cast. Because Linda didn’t cast as young Madi for the whole show, it was only for 1 episode in flashback only, same as Young Bellamy and Octavia (even young Clarke and Wells) Imogen was recast obviously because she was replace with Lola (probably Imogen conflict schedule), Beckham already arrive on the show in present time. St. John was recast so it could be show Ethan was grow up as 12 years old. They never show older Ethan in season 4 before Beckham was cast as Young Ethan. Madi already grow up (end of season 4) before we see Young Madi in flashback in beginning of season 5. I don’t know if my explaining is clear. I tried. But my explanation of Ethan in season 4 is the same as Janus100. So I agree with the admin and Wellsworth96.
