Shallow Valley (also known as Eden, the green valley, or simply the Valley) is located in what was once northwestern Virginia on Earth. Prior to the Second Nuclear Apocalypse, it was inhabited by the Shallow Valley clan (Louwoda Kliron).

The Valley was a major location in Season Five; serving as the only "spot of green" on the planet. This was due in part to the "death wave" skipping over the valley.

Description

The valley is located on Earth, in what used to be northwestern Virginia.  It includes the town of Shenandoah and was part of the present-day Shenandoah Valley. The valley is lush, with growing vegetation including edible berries.

According to Clarke Griffin, the rest of Earth that she had seen remains biologically ruined due to the death wave. Birds and fish are seen within the valley and there is regular precipitation.

History

Following the Second Nuclear Apocalypse, Clarke Griffin traveled around searching for food and water. After giving up and preparing to commit suicide, she spotted a bird flying in the air. Following it, she finds a green valley that the deathwave seemed to have skipped over. In the valley, she meets a young Nightblood named Madi. Clarke and Madi spend the next six years calling the valley home. Clarke regularly attempts to communicate with Bellamy Blake and the others on the Ark, however she receives no response.

2,199 days after Praimfaya, things change with a ship descending into the valley. Initially, Clarke assumes it was dropship from the Ark. Enthusiastic, she rushed over to Madi who notices the ship's size to be far bigger than what Clarke had anticipated it to be. Immediately thereafter, Clarke ordered Madi to bring her the rifle, which she uses to inspect the ship, which was revealed to be a prisoner transport ship owned by Eligius Corporation.

On April 26, 2156, the Valley was destroyed by Paxton McCreary during the Damocles Event.

Doah

The Shallow Valley clan settled in what was once the town of Shenandoah (which was established in 1838 and partially destroyed in the first nuclear apocalypse) and called it Doah. The clan created a village and lived there until the airborne radiation from the Second Praimfaya killed them, leaving Madi (who was resistant to the radiation due to her Nightblood) as the sole survivor. In the second month after the death wave, Clarke Griffin finds and settles in the village, where she finds Madi. After "Pandora's Box", the village is inhabited by the Eligius prisoners. Kane and Abby stay there as hostages, with several members of Spacekru and some defectors from Wonkru. As of "Sic Semper Tyrannis", all of the hostages (minus Abby), Diyoza, Shaw, Spacekru and the Wonkru defectors are forced to flee from the village, after the prisoners open fire on each other and McCreary takes control. In "The Warriors Will", 4 of the defectors are captured and executed by McCreary. In "Damocles (Part 2)", McCreary launches the "Damocles" bomb onto the valley, destroying it and leaving Earth uninhabitable forever.

Gas Station

The gas station is located within Doah. It is the place where Clarke treated her wounds after she stepped into the bear trap and lived there with Madi. Abby treated the prisoners in the gas station. Abby also treated Kane at the gas station when Vinson attacked him.

The Gas station is also seen in "Nevermind", it is where Clarke finds her dad.

Church

The Church

The Church seems to be the gathering place of most prisoners in Season Five. Shaw also said that he used to be an altar boy in a church like this one.

• Jason Rothenberg teased that Season Five's theme would be the "Battle for Eden".
• The press release for "Sic Semper Tyrannis" refers to the valley as "Shadow Valley", however that term is not used anywhere else. Other press releases and the show call it "Shallow Valley".
