New Eden is a habitable Earth-like planet located in the Goldilocks zone of a binary star system, which means it is in the habitable zone and has two suns instead of one necessitating the need for high radiation tolerance. Such as the kind developed by Grounders, the survivors of The Ark, and those with Nightblood serum for which it was designed for.

History
Before Apocalypse One, Eligius III had been sent to this planet. Eligius Corporation was looking for a planet to tap for oil, since Earth's reserves had been sucked dry. The Eligius III crew had their blood altered, i.e. given the Nightblood serum, to better withstand the two suns. According to Eligius IV's records, they never reported back or they did and it was after Apocalypse One. Either way their fate is currently unknown.
After Monty spent cracked the Eligius III mission files after 30 years, he set Eligius IV on course to travel there from its orbit around Earth. It took the ship 75 years to reach New Eden. With the hopes that humanity could truly start anew.
