What the hell, this planet sucks anyway.
— Miller on the prospect of travelling to another world. [src]

Nathan Miller is a recurring character in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh seasons. He is played by cast member Jarod Joseph and debuts in "Contents Under Pressure".

Miller is part of the original 100. Because of his crime, Miller was considered "expendable" and was chosen as one of the 100 Delinquents to be sent down to Earth to see if it was survivable.

While on Earth, Miller is one of Bellamy Blake's most trusted Gunners, serving as his lieutenant. Throughout Season Two, he develops a friendship with Monty Green and Harper and relationships with Jasper Jordan and Maya as they team up to find a way out of Mount Weather.

In the Season Two finale, he is reunited with his father David Miller, who was chief guard of Alpha Station.

In Season Three, he sides with Kane against Pike during the Arkadian Civil War. He helps sneak medical supplies to Lincoln and the interned Grounders when they are imprisoned. Later, Miller plays a key role in the War Against A.L.I.E., participating in the final battle in Polis.

In Season Four, he spends most of the time in Becca's Lab as a guard, while others are trying to find a solution for Nightblood. He and Eric Jackson begin a relationship during season four. At the end of the season he is one of the chosen 100 Sky People to stay inside of the Bunker, however his dad wasn't on the list, so he dies to the Praimfaya.

In Season Five, his time spent in the Second Dawn Bunker made him more hardened and devoted to Octavia Blake, where his role was to protect her and fight for Wonkru, to win the Shallow Valley at all costs. However all of this fades away once Madi Griffin becomes Heda, and Miller loses faith in his former leader. Eventually he was able to board Eligius IV and escape Earth, and eventually travel to a new world.

In Season Six, Miller becomes one of the first people to travel to Sanctum and participates in the growing conflict there with the Primes. Miller's skills as a thief enable him and Gaia to escape captivity and rescue Echo from being mind wiped as well as getting the notebook they need to save Madi from Sheidheda. During the Adjustment Protocol, Miller is dosed with the potent Blood of Sanctum in an effort to brainwash him into following the Primes, but is rescued by John Murphy and Emori. At the end of the conflict, after the effects of the toxin wear off, Miller is reunited with Jackson.

In Season Seven, after some of their friends are captured by the Disciples, Miller joins Clarke on a mission to rescue them. After the human race achieves transcendence, Miller chooses to return alongside the rest of Clarke's surviving friends and family aside from Madi to live out the rest of their lives together on a regenerated Earth, rather than to remain transcended, so that Clarke will not be alone forever.

Early life[]

Miller was born on the Ark and raised on Alpha Station by his father sergeant David Miller, chief of the guard. Not much is known about their relationship but that David cares about and is concerned for Miller.

Sometime while living on the Ark, Miller was arrested by Marcus Kane and sent to juvenile lockup for theft. Miller had a boyfriend named Bryan whom he had known since his time on the Ark, but they were separated once Miller was locked up and the 100 sent to the ground.

Throughout the Series[]

In Contents Under Pressure, Miller and Drew enter the dropship with Bellamy, holding an unconscious Lincoln. They take him upstairs and restrain him, so Bellamy can attempt to get answers out of him. Meanwhile, Miller goes through the grounder's stuff and they find little vials and a drawing book. Later, he watches Bellamy torture Lincoln in an attempt to get him to confess to which vial is the antidote for the poison on the blade used to stab Finn Collins. They are joined by Raven Reyes who takes a turn out of desperation. At the end of the episode, when Lincoln thanks Octavia for cleaning his wounds, Miller believes he heard him speak but Octavia denies it. He then tells her that Bellamy doesn't want her up there and she leaves.

In Day Trip, Miller approaches Bellamy who is watching over Lincoln and he's been informing some of the Delinquents' parents about their deaths. Afterward, he expresses his desire to kill Lincoln but Bellamy tells him they aren't going to. Miller doesn't hold back, however, messing with the grounder. Lincoln head-butts him after this. Later, when Octavia checks on Lincoln, Miller returns from talking on the radio, and tells her to get out, threatening to beat Lincoln if Octavia doesn't. Octavia obeys him, but after running into a hallucinating Jasper, she concocts a plan. She returns to the top level of the drop ship shortly after with some nuts that she gives to Miller. She claims it's a peace offering and won't go up there again, and he accepts them. After eating the nuts, Miller is shown out front in the camp, talking to himself. This allows Octavia to free Lincoln and help him escape. Later, when he's sobered up, he notices Lincoln missing and warns the others, just in time for Bellamy and Clarke to arrive. He stands in the crowd as he listens to their speech regarding the guns.

In Unity Day, Miller is seen standing around the radio with Raven, Fox, and some of the other Delinquents, as they watch Chancellor Jaha's Unity Day speech. He makes a snide comment about the fact that it's because of the Delinquents that the following Unity Day will be celebrated on the ground, and remarks that someone should shut him up. Raven chimes in, however, and tells him to shut up, to which he brushes off. Later on, during the celebration, he is seen standing by and watching Clarke, Fox and Sterling before Clarke leaves with Finn.

In We Are Grounders (Part 1), Miller announces via walkie talkie that someone is approaching the gates to the camp and calls for all the gunners to prepare. When everyone gathers around camp, Miller is the first to recognize Finn and Clarke, telling the other Delinquents to hold their fire and let them in.

In We Are Grounders (Part 2), Miller is as the front of the pack with Drew, Jasper, and others as Octavia leads them out of camp and into the woods to head to the beach to escape the attacking Grounders. He discusses that once they hit the beach, he plans to go surfing. However, Octavia stops the group and seemingly out of nowhere, a Grounder scout hiding in the trees attacks, throwing a metal object that strikes Drew in the face, instantly killing him. Miller and the other Delinquents retreat to camp, taking Drew's body with them and run to their posts to prepare for the battle.

Once back, Miller gets into his position in the foxhole with Monroe and Octavia. The Grounders approach the camp in no time, though they remain hidden. Bellamy joins them shortly and when he asks about Octavia's whereabouts, Miller informs him that Octavia ran off and makes a comment that he thinks she's a samurai. When the Grounders finally attack, Monroe flees in fear. Miller calls for her but one pounces on Bellamy. Miller calls out his name but before he could help, he is hit in the shoulder with a spear, and Bellamy is nearly killed until Octavia shows up just in time to save them. Bellamy orders that Miller return to camp, while he attends a wounded Octavia.

Back at camp, the Delinquents are doing everything in their power to fight back. However, most have returned to the drop ship. Miller enters, holding onto his wounded shoulder and informs Clarke that the Grounders are making it inside, and states he's going to shut the drop ship door. Clarke tells him not to though because they're still waiting for Finn and Bellamy. They go outside and Miller attempts to shoot at grounders that have made it past the wall, as Clarke attempts to get Finn and Bellamy. It doesn't last long, however, because the grounders kill multiple Delinquents and Miller rushes to Clarke and tells her that she can't save everyone and that they need to go inside. Finn gives her a nod from where he is, and eventually Clarke relents. Miller and Clarke return to the drop ship and shuts the main door.

However, Anya arrives just in time and manages to jump onto the drop ship before it closes. She attempts to attack the Delinquents before Miller strikes her in the head from behind, allowing him and some other Delinquents to kick her while she's down. Miller tries to finish her off with his knife, claiming that she deserves to die, but Clarke stops him and tells the Delinquents that they are not grounders. Jasper finishes just in time, and sets off the explosives, obliterating all the attacking grounders and any other bodies left behind.

When the sun rises, the Delinquents exit the dropship and take in what's left of the camp. Charred corpses surround them and they look upon the wreckage in despair. Gas grenades are suddenly tossed onto the campsite, and all of the surviving Delinquents are taken back to their base in Mount Weather.

In Inclement Weather, Miller makes his first appearance, being released after being in surgery for the injury sustained from battle. Maya gives him a bottle of pills, and Clarke welcomes him back to which he gives her a polite nod. He makes a comment afterward, though, alluding to her behavior since getting out of her room, to which Clarke gawks at Maya. Miller is later seen reading a book in his bottom bunk as Clarke talks to Jasper about her suspicion with Mount Weather. Jasper remarks her behavior as "crazy" and asks her what they might do to her if she keeps up her act, and Miller chimes in, deadpanning that she would be kicked out. Afterward, Clarke slumps in her seat in the mess hall, as she watches over her friends enjoying their stay, including Miller who beats another at arm wrestling. At the end of the episode, Miller's father is introduced and asks Bellamy to find his son, which marks the first time Miller is acknowledged by full name in the series, and Bellamy promises to do so.

In Fog of War, Miller is in the dormitory with the rest of the Delinquents, giving Jasper their attention. He is trying to convince everyone to volunteer for the blood transfusion for the Mountain Men, but Miller refuses, and Harper, Monty, and the others follow. Later, they relent, albeit off screen, and Miller is shown to be one of them. Him, along with Jasper, Monty, and Harper gather and Jasper states that they need to buy Clarke some time to come rescue them.

In Long Into an Abyss, Miller and the others are unhappy since the blood transfusion and Jasper states that them cooperating is good because it buys them some time. Miller, however, is unimpressed and states that if they're going to die, it might as well be by trying to escape to which the others agree. Jasper continues to try to maintain hope that Clarke will save them, however, but Monty tells him that Clarke may not have even escaped and she may be dead. Harper insists they try to escape, but Jasper says instead, they should find the truth.

Later on, Miller is standing watch as Monty attempts to get Dante's office door open. He seems anxious, though, and Jasper tells him to relax as Maya is helping them to which Miller doesn't seem convinced of. When Monty finally gets the door open, the group make their way inside. Miller attempts to get the drawers open as Monty attempts to hack into the computer. After some time, Miller finds something in one of the drawers and at the same time, Monty finds surveillance photos of Camp Jaha. This surprises the others as they were told there were no survivors.

Later, Miller and Monty are in the dormitory, looking at the papers Miller found. He states that if Alpha Station is on the ground, other stations may be as well. At this, Monty mentions that Miller was from Alpha Station and Miller informs him that his father was chief guard. He then makes a sarcastic comment that his father loved having a thief for a kid. Monty assures him that he's a great thief, though, to which Miller softly chuckles. Jasper enters the dormitories after that, asking where Harper is, but neither have seen her.

In Remember Me, Miller is playing a card game with Monty when Jasper and Maya arrive and join them. They gather to discuss the possible whereabouts of Harper, but Miller makes snide comments at Maya, and Jasper rushes to defend her and inform him that she's on their side, but Miller isn't convinced. During this, Monty inspects the base's map and informs them that they need to get to the wires that run into the antenna on the ground so that they can broadcast a message to the Ark survivors, and then tells them what they need.

Later, they get to the art warehouse and Miller has another dispute with Maya and Jasper when she tells him that the Mountain Men will hear if he pounds the wall with the hammer. She counts down to five and an alarm echoes through the base. This enables him to bash a whole in the wall, and Monty begins work. He attempts to get their message to send, but he's having issues unjamming the frequency. Maya returns then to warn them that a guard is coming, and they flee. Later, Jasper and Maya meet up with Miller at the dormitories and ask where Monty is, but Miller claims that he thought he was with them. They realize what's happened then, and Miller appears to be upset by this news.

In Coup de Grâce, Miller is seen standing in the dormitories with the other delinquents as Jasper and Monty alert them that they are leaving. They begin to pack up when an alarm sounds suddenly blares and the doors slam shut, locking them inside.

In Rubicon, Miller are awaiting news after being locked up for hours. Jasper tells them that Bellamy is there, but the others are skeptical. Suddenly, Dr. Lorelei Tsing enters the room with guards and take one of the kids away. He glares at her as she tells them that they are no longer leaving as Dante is no longer in charge. He attempts to stick with the others when they return for another, but the guards get physical and drag her off anyway.

Later, he stands alongside the other delinquents as they link arms, but again, they break them apart and begin to drag Monty away. During this, they attempt to fight back against the guards. They don't fair too well, however, and are beaten down. They trade Monty for Jasper and walk off. However, a radiation leak is exposed, thanks to Bellamy. This causes the Mount Weather guards to fall to the ground, weak and in pain. The delinquents are able to be free as a result, and take the guards' guns as they die. Dr. Tsing attempts to escape via the elevator, but Jasper stops its doors before they close and he, Harper, Monty and Miller stand in the doorway and ignore her cry as they watch her die.

In Resurrection, the delinquents have moved to the mess hall, and Miller and some of the others begin to barricade the main doors. Things are slow for a bit when they finish, though, awaiting an attack. The delinquents get into their positions and prepare for a fight. Miller is armed with a cleaver, and he tells Harper to be careful as she has a gun because she could hit one of them. After this, the guards bust the doors open and then throw gas grenades into the hall. When the guards take down the barricade a few moments later, they walk in and find the delinquents on the ground, presumably unconscious. It is revealed the grenades were tossed into buckets of water, and they are faking it. Jasper initiates the attack, and the delinquents jump up from their positions and fight back. Miller is seen attacking a guardsman with a post. After they retreat, Fox screams for Jasper as she is dragged away by a few guards. Jasper attempts to run after her, but Miller restrains him and calms him down, telling him that she'll be okay, though he is still visible upset.

Later, Miller informs Jasper that they are going to attack harder next time and states that they need more than a few guns and a few buckets of water to fight back and wait for Bellamy to rescue them. After Maya is set up to be killed if the delinquents don't surrender, Miller surrounds her with Jasper and Monty. Monty states he's going to fix the entrance to the trash shoot and Jasper tells Miller to help. He calls for Harper to join them and then follows. He watches as Monty tries to fix it, but when Monty gets impatient, he asks Miller to help him force it open. It is then when a force is heard on the other side and they all jump back, only to find it's Bellamy. He, Maya and Jasper go down the shoot and Maya is rescued. It is revealed towards the end of the episode that the delinquents escaped through the trash shoot. Miller comments that they're all just sitting ducks walking around in a group and Bellamy tells him that they're going to split up. When he makes a comment that Maya can't help them anymore, he asks who's going to help them now. Bellamy states, "They are." He leads them to acquaintances of Maya's family that don't agree with Cage. Maya's father motions for them to come, and tells them that they are going to be divided along the way. Miller follows immediately.

In Blood Must Have Blood (Part 1), Miller is seen in captivity with Jasper, Maya and Fox, their hands restrained in handcuffs as they are forced to follow one of the Mount Weather guards, Paul. Vincent, however, steps in the way and refuses to let them take Maya despite Maya's pleas. Miller looks over at Maya with remorse when Paul pulls out his gun to shoot Vincent, but Bellamy shoots Paul from inside the ventilation, killing him, and the other guard that was following behind rushes over to get Bellamy when Miller kicks the guard in the back of the leg, knocking him down onto his knees and then wraps his arms around the guard, pulling the handcuffs against his throat, strangling him, before smashing his head against the concrete walls. When Bellamy exits, he asks Miller if he's okay to which he replies, 'Better than him,' gesturing towards the dead guard on the floor as Jasper frees his hands. Bellamy then tells Vincent to get them to the harvest chamber and him, Miller, and Fox go as Jasper and Maya join Bellamy to find Monty. It's later revealed the harvest chamber has been cleared, the grounders freed as part of the deal Mount Weather made with Lexa and the delinquents captured.

In Blood Must Have Blood (Part 2), Miller is handcuffed to the wall when the Mount Weather guards bring in more Camp Jaha residents, his dad included. When he's revealed, Miller is shocked to see him. His dad is relieved to finally be reunited with him, but he is struck in the back of the head when he tries to run to him. This enrages Miller, who shouts at the guards from where he's restrained, tugging at the handcuffs above him, trying to be freed. Later, after the Mount Weather civilians are killed, the Millers are freed and are finally reunited. They smile as they take in the moment and then embrace. At the end of the episode, when the Sky People arrive home at Camp Jaha, Miller is seen walking side-by-side with David, his father's jacket around him.

In Wanheda (Part 1), Miller walks up to Bellamy while he is choosing people to come along for his mapping mission. Bellamy tosses Miller a gun and allows him to come. While driving, Miller joins in the sing-a-long of Add It Up, but the fun is cut short when the group receives a signal from Farm Station, which Miller's boyfriend is from. The gang realizes that Farm Station is in Ice Nation territory, but Miller insists they go. Miller and the others reach the border of Ice Nation in Sector 8. He steps outside with the others to greet the three Ice Nation warriors that arrive. Jasper grabs the beacon off of one of the warriors, laughs about it, and in turn, the warrior slits Jasper's throat. Miller, along with the rest of his friends, shoot and kill the three warriors. Miller manages to make it back to Arkadia with the others unharmed.

In Watch the Thrones, Miller is seen with his boyfriend, Bryan, attending the memorial for those from Farm Station that were killed at Mount Weather. He comforts Bryan as he grieves, and even encourages him to go forth and speak for one of the deceased.

In Hakeldama, Miller approaches the cell holding the Grounders, coming face to face with Lincoln. He tells the other guards to be careful because "this one doesn't like to be chained up". He then says to Lincoln that Octavia is not here to free him this time. But it is all an act. Miller opens an opening in the door and slips through a small bottle. Checking to see if the other guard is looking, Miller whispers to Lincoln that it is from Abby for Danae, a sick Grounder in the cell. He then informs Lincoln that Octavia got out with Clarke.

In Bitter Harvest, Miller brings Octavia a horse. He then questions her about what she plans to do because asking the Grounders to leave doesn't seem realistic. He adds that if the Grounders don't leave, they will be leading their people into an ambush. He suggests she talk to Bellamy but then realizes that they don't have another choice because if they don't stop the attack on the village, it'll be war and more dead friends.

Back in Arkadia, Miller is greeted by Bryan who was worried about his whereabouts. He lies to him, telling him that he lost a horse while he actually gave it to Octavia. He continues by telling how he wished Bryan didn't have to go on the mission to wipe out the village. Before leaving, Miller tells Bryan to be careful and they hug. As he watches Rover leave, Miller nods to Kane.

In Terms and Conditions, he is seen spying on Pike's meeting along with Kane and Harper. He also worries about Octavia who hasn't report back to them for a while.

Later that day, Bryan enters their quarters just as Miller is getting reading to leave for work. They speak of not seeing each other often due to having opposite shifts, with Bryan working days and Miller working nights. The conversation switches to Pike's politics, which is a sensitive topic since Bryan stands behind their Chancellor while Miller supports Kane. Bryan helps Miller put his jacket on and they kiss goodbye before Miller leaves for work.

Because Bryan bugged Miller's jacket, Monty overhears a conversation between him and Harper, proving that they are both working with Kane against Pike. At the end of the day, Miller, Bryan, and Harper sit around a camp fire and he and Harper exchange glances. Bellamy and Monty decide to not give up his name when questioned if they found other traitors.

In Heavy Lies the Crown, In Arkadia, Clarke, Bellamy, Raven, and Monty try to find a way to ride out the radiation and are debating whether the masses should be told. Suddenly, Monty realizes that they can survive inside Alpha Station as long as they patch up the ship. The next day, Bellamy explains the plan to Miller and Bryan and tells them they need to go to Farm Station to fetch a hydro generator. They arrive in the Ice Nation and find that Farm Station is inhabited by members of the Ice Nation. Suddenly, Ice Nation members surround them and take them to the station to meet the chief. Bellamy tells them they're just they're for the hydro generator at the request of King Roan. The Ice Nation members agree to let them take the machine. The crew goes to get the machine, but notice many people, including Riley, serving as slaves. The Ice Nation members tell them the deal was the take only the machine and the rest will remain theirs. Bellamy, Monty, Harper, Miller, and Bryan are debating whether they should save the slaves or take the hydro generator. Bryan and Harper want to free to slaves while Miller and Monty want to take the machine. The final decision is Bellamy's and he decides to use the machine to free the slaves. They take the machine, rigging it as a bomb and free the slaves. Many of Azgeda die in the explosion and their chief is beaten to death by the slaves. They arrive back in Arkadia to be met with by Clarke and Raven. Bellamy confesses they didn't get the machine and rather used it to save the slaves. This reduces the number of people who can survive inside of Alpha Station to only one hundred.

In The Four Horsemen, he and his father are patrolling the front gates of Arkadia when Murphy approaches to them. They allow him to go through.

In A Lie Guarded, Miller leaves Arkadia with Jackson, Abby, Murphy, Emori, Luna, Raven, and a couple Guards. Once they arrive on Becca's Island, they approach a marker shaped like the Washington monument, and Emori pauses. She remembers that A.L.I.E. had a rule about not crossing a line there, but Murphy doesn't care. They all decide to walk past the line, when suddenly a drone shows up and shoots one of the Guards in the head. It begins to chase the rest of them, shooting at every moving target. They all decide to split up to search for Luna. Emori tells Murphy that there are more dangerous things on the island other than the drones. She keeps telling Murphy they need to find a place to hide away, but Abby interrupts them saying they need to keep moving. Raven attempt to run for the damaged drone. However, she starts getting shot at by another drone and needs a new plan. Suddenly we see that Jackson is shot and pinned down by the active drone. Even though he's accompanied by Nate, they're out of ammunition and need help. This is where Luna decides to help by acting as a decoy for the drone while Raven shoots at it. Luna runs into the forest after picking up the damaged drone. Raven begins to access the drone's system in order to alter its programming. We then see Abby run out and try to be a decoy as the active drone approaches her. Just as the drone attempts to shoot her, it deactivates and falls to the ground. Raven saved them by finding a way to hack the drones' systems.

In God Complex, Miller, Clarke, Abby, Jackson, Emori, Murphy, Raven, Roan, and Luna begin testing on an unnamed Grounder that Emori marked as "Baylis". It starts off well, he survives the amount of radiation of the black rain. However, when they increase the radiation levels, he dies a violent death, coughing up black blood. The test is deemed a failure. Emori's lie about the test subject's identity surfaces, resulting in her and Murphy getting locked up. In the lab, they are preparing Emori for the radiation chamber. Abby doesn't manage to inject her, so Clarke takes over. After contemplating, she injects herself instead. Her mother is not happy with this. After two hours have passed, Clarke's preparing to be tested. Abby doesn't want to let her go in. She explains that she saw Clarke with radiation poisoning her vision. Abby then smashes the radiation chamber until it's unusable.

In DNR, Nathan and Jackson enter The Lab to get Emori and Murphy back to Arkadia, leaving Raven alone.

In Eden, he looks on the cage fight going on inside the bunker.

In Sanctum, he is chosen to go a mission to explore the new world as a part of Expedition 1. Upon landing on the ground, the group is thrilled to find that the air is breathable and the radiation levels are good. He mostly spends his time alongside his boyfriend Eric Jackson while they are exploring. The group come across a small lake and Murphy jumps in to swim, Nathan shouts him that the water may be unsafe and he didn't heal his wounds, however the water seems to be safe too. Later, sitting around the campfire he and Eric relaxes and talks about their new status as aliens, while they are observing a bug that they caught up in a jar.

As an eclipse approaches, the group notices that a bug they had captured in a jar is becoming extremely violent. Suddenly, a huge swarm of bugs approaches them at high speed. They run to seek shelter while using fire flares to scare off the bugs. Soon, they reach an electric tower with a radiation fence which kills the bugs. Shaw accidentally runs through the electric barrier and gets burned by the radiation. Clarke notices that they are radiation-type shockers and she can go through them because she has nightblood. She goes through the barriers and disables the tower temporarily to let the rest of the group get inside.

The group continues to explore while waiting for Raven to contact them. They explore more houses and find people in photographs standing by an American flag. Murphy finds a music player and turns it on.

While Miller and Jackson talking to each other sitting on the stairs they get interrupted by Murphy yelling at something. Miller then shouts that someone stole their transport ship and it's now flying away. A couple moments later, Emori starts attacking Murphy out of nowhere. The group quickly comes to save him and notices that Emori turned violent during the eclipse in a manner similar to what's depicted in the "Red Sun Rising" book.

In Nevermind, he stands with Bellamy on their meeting with Russell where he explains them details of building their own compound. After Bellamy notices that Josephine sends them a message via the Morse code, he takes Miller and leaves the room. Nathan asks him about the message and Bellamy mentions Pike's Earth Skills, which Miller was sleeping through. Bellamy figures that the message was from Clarke and that she is alive. So they together going to find a way to bring her back.

In The Old Man and the Anomaly, he with the others is sitting in the Tavern and discussing the plan to bring back Clarke and get out Josephine. Madi suggests just to kill all the Primes but the groups decides to do it in a less bloody way.

Then Emori comes in, she firstly asks for a Shock Collar, but then realizes that she can't just stay away and tells that Clarke will be killed now. Together they begin working on a new plan. When Emori makes Josephine to get to the shield, Eric and Nathan are ready to go to them. However Madi kills Miranda and it forces Russell to start the alarm and capture Earth people. Jackson, Miller, Emori, Echo, Murphy and Madi get locked up.

In Ashes to Ashes, Miller remains locked up with Gaia while everyone else is gone and struggles to find a way out, earning him Murphy's ire when he tries and fails to pick a lock. When a guard brings them food, Miller attacks him briefly to steal the guard's knife and use the wire on it to pick the lock. Miller and Gaia escape and head to Ryker's workshop to retrieve Becca's notebook so that Sheidheda can be deleted from the Flame. Disguised as Sanctum guards, the two are called into the workshop to help restrain Echo so that Ryker can wipe her mind. Ryker realizes too late who they really are and is taken captive by Miller while Gaia releases Echo. After being rescued by Miller and Gaia, Echo kills Ryker for his actions.

In Nakara, Raven examines her armor's HUD and learns that they are on Nakara which has a function of Ossuarium as Clarke calls for their missing friends and they realize that they are on the wrong planet though Niylah quips that she thinks the planet is "pretty cool" in a joke about Nakara's frozen state. Raven locates the Anomaly Stone 2 kilometers away in a cave using the armor's HUD. Clarke spots something in the snow nearby and she and Raven uncover a body wrapped in a burial shroud. Raven realizes that Ossuarium means a burial ground and recognizes the symbol on the shroud from the star map, giving them the right planet to travel to next. Uncovering the body's face, Clarke discovers that it is that of a human and not an alien as Jordan had hoped. The group sets out across the ice field to find the Anomaly Stone and get their friends back.

Reaching the cave entrance, Raven leads her friends inside, telling them that the Stone is 200 meters away. Raven activates a light in her helmet and begins making her way towards the Stone, commenting that she hopes none of the group is claustrophobic as they are forced to crawl through a narrow tunnel. The group realizes that it suddenly smells while Raven states that the temperature is up 50 degrees from the surface which she figures means that there is a thermal heat source of some kind down there. As the group approaches an opening, they begin hearing strange noises and Raven spots something moving ahead of her. As Raven stops, knowing that something is down there, a spider-like creature attacks, chewing at Raven's helmet. Finally, Raven deploys her armor's blade and strikes at the creature, forcing it to retreat, but leaving Raven's helmet damaged.

Needing to reach the Stone, Raven leads the others through the opening into a larger chamber where she removes her helmet and catches her breath. Raven brushes off Jordan's questions about the creature as she examines her damaged helmet, but Niylah discovers that the tunnel opening has suddenly sealed behind them, preventing the group from retreating to the surface. When Jordan touches the wall where the opening used to be, he discovers that it is acidic and Raven states that they aren't going that way anyway, puts her helmet back on and continues leading the group towards the Anomaly Stone.

Raven eventually leads the group to within 40 meters of the Stone, but reaches a dead end with the Stone on the other side of a wall. As Raven suggests backtracking to find another route, Jordan states that its not a good idea as the sounds of more of the creatures are heard. Suddenly, the ground shakes and another wall separates Raven and Clarke from Jordan, Miller and Niylah. Miller and Jordan desperately call out for Clarke and Raven who, at the same time, realize that they are not in a cave but instead a living organism. Together, Miller and Jordan bang on the wall, but Niylah orders them to stop, pointing out how useless it is and stating that they need to think of something else. Under attack by more of the spider-like creatures, the three open fire, causing the creature they are inside of to shift again and reopen the wall between the two groups.

The group discovers that this latest shift has also opened the path to the Anomaly Stone. However, Raven discovers that her damaged helmet makes the map too blurry to read and struggles to identify the correct planet from the symbol discovered on the burial shroud. Raven attempts to think the map into focus and refuses to just pick another planet at random and risk ending up on the wrong one as Niylah insists that she should do. Looking at a piece of cloth on the ground, Miller realizes that the symbol on it looks familiar and draws Niylah's attention to it. Niylah is shocked to recognize the symbol as that of the Second Dawn, the cult that built the bunker in Polis. Niylah questions how there could be people there from the bunker, but Miller suggests that it has to be just a coincidence.

With more of the creatures approaching, Miller, Niylah, Jordan and Clarke hold them off as Raven finally locates the right code and opens the Anomaly which scares off the creatures. Clarke orders everyone to have their weapons ready as they don't know what's waiting for them on the other side and leads them through the Anomaly.

In The Queen's Gambit, the group arrives on Bardo where, to their shock and grief, Gabriel reveals Bellamy's apparent death.

In Anaconda, a clearly emotional Miller issues orders to the rest of the group as Clarke confronts Bill Cadogan.

In A Little Sacrifice, Miller joins Clarke and Raven in retrieving their friends and is shocked when Octavia greets him with a warm hug which he hesitantly returns. He then hugs her back. When confronted with Anders, Miller threatens him with his assault rifle, but Charmaine Diyoza recgonizes that Anders has cloaked backup. When Hope releases Gen-9, Miller flees from the room with the others.

In The Stranger, after Clarke makes a deal with Cadogan to release her friends in exchange for help in locating the Flame, Miller questions if she is actually alright with it which she confirms. When Cadogan opens the Anomaly, Miller is the first to be released and dons a Disciple helmet as he passes through so that he can keep his memory. However, Cadogan reveals that while the group has been released and is safe, he did not send them to Sanctum in order to ensure Clarke's compliance and only Cadogan knows where they have gone and will reveal it once the last war starts.

In Blood Giant, Jackson asks Gabriel if Nate is okay with Gabriel's hallucination of Josephine Lightbourne pointing out that Gabriel doesn't even know who that is. Jackson clarifies that he means Miller and Gabriel states that he is alright, but not there. Later, Clarke forces Cadogan to open the Anomaly to where he sent their friends for another rescue mission.

Personality[]

Although initially a background character, Miller appears to be loyal to Bellamy, following his commands and listening to him. At first, he's disdainful of the Grounders and for much of his appearances in season one, he is shown on look out for any trespassers. Bellamy notes in "Day Trip" that the other delinquents listen to him, implying that he has some leadership abilities.

Later, inside Mount Weather, he is shown to be very outspoken and quick-witted, unafraid to speak his mind and bluntly shares his opinions. During this time, he steps up from his previous minor role in the series and, albeit with some reluctance, works together with Monty, Jasper, Harper and Maya to find an exit and reunite with the Ark survivors.

In Season Three, Miller appears to have matured and become more responsible since joining the Guard. His hatred towards the Grounders also appears to have eroded as he is now friendly towards them. Season Five illustrates Miller's tendency to be loyal to a fault, as he continues to be loyal to Octavia/Blodreina. Season Six shows Miller struggling with some of the actions he took inside the bunker.

He shown to be a loving boyfriend first with Bryan, and later with Jackson. Season Five and Season Six show several affectionate moments between Miller and Jackson.

Physical Appearance[]

Miller is a black male with dark brown eyes and a buzz cut. He has a strong build is often seen throughout the entirety of season one in his signature black beanie. In Season Two, Miller has grown out facial hair, and due to Mount Weather's strict policies, no longer wears his beanie.

In Season 5, after the six year jump, he has a shaved head and a full beard. Season 6 shows Miller with closely cropped hair and neatly-trimmed facial hair.

Relationships[]

"You should keep him close. The others listen to him."
- Bellamy to Clarke about Miller.[src]
Bellamy and Miller are friends. Miller is one of Bellamy's assistants and probably his second after the Murphy drama. He is also loyal toward Bellamy and holds high respect for him. Miller follows Bellamy's orders and Bellamy trusts him. During the battle in "We Are Grounders (Part 2)", a grounder pounces onto Bellamy and Miller shouts his name but is injured before he could help. After being separated, Miller is finally reunited with Bellamy in "Resurrection" and seems relieved to see him again. They were estranged during Season 5, but reconciled at the start of Season 6. After learning of Bellamy's apparent death, Miller is visibly devastated and emotional at the news.

"Hey, you're a great thief."
- Monty to Miller[src]
After teaming up to find a way out of Mount Weather, Miller and Monty grow closer as friends. They are often shown together in scenes, and often direct most of their lines to one another. Monty compliments Miller in "Long Into an Abyss", assuring him that he is a great thief to which Miller chuckles softly. In "Remember Me", they play a card game together before being joined by Jasper and Maya to find out where Harper is. Later that episode, he is shown to be upset when Monty goes missing, implying he's concerned for the other. He later stands beside Monty as they prepare to fight back against Dr. Lorelei Tsing and the Mount Weather guards in "Rubicon". And in "Resurrection", he assists Monty with the trash shoot.

"Miller realizes what a dick he is."
- Jasper in reply to Monty's question, "What happens in 5 seconds?"[src]
Miller is shown to hold some sort of resentment towards Jasper, making snide remarks toward him and Maya and being open about his dislike for the way Jasper does things. Despite this, he continues to work alongside Jasper, and although he doesn't trust Jasper's new friend, Maya, he seems to have a sort of trust in Jasper. In "Resurrection", he appears to have softened up to Jasper, consoling him when he becomes devastated that Fox is dragged off by the guards.

"Look, you don't have to like me, Miller. Hey, you can blame me all you want for what my people are doing, but I'm trying to make things right."
- Maya to Miller when he accuses of her of changing her mind.[src]
Miller appears to have a strong distrust and dislike for Maya, implying he holds her up with the other Mount Weather staff trying to kill the 47. She continues to help the group find a way out, although Miller doesn't hold back his animosity, often accusing her of working for the other team. However, in "Resurrection", he assists Monty in trying to rescue Maya from the radiation leak, even making a comment to Monty that almost isn't good enough as Maya is running out of time, hinting that he may not hold much resentment towards her anymore.

Main article: Nathan and David
Nathan appears to have a strong connection to his father, David Miller. His father is shown to be willing to break the law for his son, as he agrees to help Abby. They are later united in Mount Weather. They share a bravery in times of battle, shown in the season one and season two finale as a parallel between them both.

Main article: Nathan and Bryan
Bryan is Miller's ex-boyfriend, whom he was dating on the Ark. The two were separated when Miller was locked up in the Sky Box and then the Delinquents were sent to the ground. The two reunite on Earth when Farm Station survivors join Arkadia. They break up early in Season 4.

Main article: Nathan and Eric
Eric Jackson is Miller's boyfriend. They first got together during season 4 and are still together as of the end of season 6.

Brell and Miller are both rivals, causing a feud between the two in Season 5.

Notes and Trivia[]

  • Nathan Miller may be descended from The Grounder Raine Miller.
  • Miller was the one to tell Diggs' mom, John Mbege's dad, and Roma Bragg's parents about their children's deaths.
  • When breaking into Dante's office, Jasper said Miller is a thief, revealing why he was locked up and sent to the ground.
    • Kim Shumway, one of the writers for the show, stated that Miller was somehow involved in Monty and Jasper's grow room on the Ark. Shumway wants to write a flashback webisode showing this and said it would involve Miller being "surprisingly awesome".[1] This confirms that Miller knew Monty and Jasper prior to show's events and was possibly friends with them.
    • In "Ashes to Ashes," after stealing a Sanctum guard's knife, Miller comments that its "the best lift I've made since the Ark."
  • Aaron Ginsburg, a producer/writer for the show, said that it is "safe to assume" that Miller knew Clarke on the Ark. They are the same age (making him about 17 or 18) and thus likely shared classes.[2]
  • Miller is one of the nine LGBT+ characters in the TV series; the other six are Clarke Griffin, Lexa, Costia, Niylah, Bryan, Eric Jackson, Daniel Lee and Zev. He was the fourth character confirmed to be LGBT when it was revealed he has a boyfriend in "Wanheda (Part 1)". Series writer Kim Shumway confirmed he was gay.[3]
  • He has appeared in 67 episodes, making him the most frequently appearing recurring character.
    • It was revealed at Unity Day 2018 that Miller was not supposed to stay on the show as long as he has. At the end of Season Two, Jarod Joseph, who plays Miller, was told that he would be sticking around and that there would be a big change to his character.[4]
  • Nathan and Raven Reyes are the only two characters who were introduced in Season One after "Pilot" who are known to be still alive.
  • It is possible that he was based off of the book character Eric. Both were helpful and trusted by Bellamy. They were also apart of the 100 delinquents sent to the ground and were gay.
