Lexa was a recurring character in the second and third seasons. She was portrayed by cast member Alycia Debnam-Carey and debuted in "Fog of War".

As the Commander of the 12 Clans, Lexa was the reason the twelve clans united to fight against Mount Weather and without her, the Coalition would fail.

Lexa sent Tristan to take over from Anya during The Trikru-Delinquent Conflict. After the rest of The Ark lands, Lexa had put out a bounty for all Sky People and Thelonious Jaha was taken captive. After the massacre in Tondc, Lexa released Jaha and demanded the rest of the Sky People flee or die. When Clarke Griffin offered a way to save both of their people from Mount Weather, Lexa reconsidered and only demanded Finn Collins' death instead in compensation for the massacre.

Lexa and Clarke soon started working hard together to form an alliance and free their people from Mount Weather. They came up with a plan to take down Mount Weather's defenses and invade the Mountain. Carl Emerson approached Lexa and offered a deal from Cage Wallace to free all of Lexa's people if she left and they never encroached upon the Mountain again. Lexa took the deal, saving her people but leaving behind Clarke and the rest of the Sky People.

At the beginning of the Season Three, Lexa had Clarke brought to her. Clarke agreed to forgive her and they became allies again and later lovers. Mid-season, Lexa was accidentally killed by Titus, but continued to exist through the Flame. At the end of the season, Clarke used the Flame and, with Lexa's help, terminated A.L.I.E. Her spirit continues to live in the Flame and later advises the new Commander, Madi Griffin, Clarke's adopted daughter, based off of her experiences with Clarke. Raven is later forced to delete the Flame to save Madi from Sheidheda. However, Sheidheda at least is uploaded to another location, leaving the fate of Lexa's consciousness and that of the other Commanders unknown.

Early Life

PromoLexaThrone 2x07 — First Commander of the Coalition

Lexa grew up with the Woods Clan, and from an early age, was trained as a warrior.^[1] She was born a Nightblood and, as is tradition, was brought to Polis to be taught and trained as a potential successor for the Commander. She was mentored by Flamekeeper Titus, and later served as Anya's Second,^[2] who was also her mentor.

At age 12, the previous Commander died and Lexa was called to attend the conclave. In doing so, she stopped her training with Anya in order to take on the responsibilities required by her position.^[3] Lexa won the conclave after seven other Nightbloods were killed and Luna had fled. She was given the Flame ascending as the new Commander.

Lexa played an important role in uniting the 12 Grounder Clans and forming the Coalition and became the first Commander of the all 12 Clans.^[4]

At some point, Lexa began a relationship with a Grounder named Costia. Costia was kidnapped, tortured and beheaded by another Grounder clan, the Ice Nation, to learn Lexa's secrets. They delivered Costia's head to Lexa's own bed. This caused Lexa to trust no one.

Throughout the Series

In Fog of War, Kane and Jaha are both trapped in a Grounder prison. Jaha tells Kane that their time isn't up yet because they still have work to do. Gustus enters with some warriors and they start to beat up Jaha. Kane tells them they came in peace. Gustus tells them about the massacre in Tondc and says that "Blood must have blood." He leaves behind a dagger and tells them that one of them will die by the other's hand and only then will he hear the terms of their surrender. He leaves behind a girl, Lexa, to make sure the deed is done. Lexa tells them that if they refuse, the Commander will use the knife to slit both of their throats.

Fog of War 024 (Lexa) — Lexa waits for Kane and Jaha to fight to the death

Kane and Jaha discuss the difference between murder and sacrifice as they decide whether to follow Gustus' orders or not. Kane picks up the dagger and offers it to Jaha, telling Jaha to kill him but Jaha refuses. Kane then cuts his own forearm and Jaha begs Lexa to help him. Lexa tosses him a bandage before Jaha takes her as a hostage. Gustus and the guards enter where Jaha is holding Lexa hostage. Lexa then takes out Jaha and holds the knife against his throat before revealing that she is, in fact, the Commander. She says that she believes that their wish for peace is sincere, but that Jaha will be used to send a message and they drag Jaha away because "the massacre must be answered. Blood must have blood." Lexa orders to have Jaha taken away and for Kane remain locked in his cell. Jaha is returned to Camp Jaha and tells them he has a message from the Commander: "leave or die. We have two days."

In Long Into an Abyss, Abigail Griffin and Jaha are discussing their options of what to do about the Commander's ultimatum. Abby wants to rescue the kids in Mount Weather but Jaha wants to flee. Abby tells everyone at Camp Jaha that yes, the Grounders have threatened them but they haven't made any decisions yet. Abby tells everyone that no decision has been made yet and they should all report to their station supervisors.Later at Camp Jaha, everyone is preparing to evacuate when Clarke arrives and tells Abby that she knows how to stop the Grounder threat. In the distance, lights start to appear in the darkness of the night and everyone realizes the Grounder army has arrived. Abby then decides to head back to the drop ship to save Lincoln while Clarke goes to talk to the Commander.

PromoLexaThroneClarke 2x07 — Lexa meets Clarke

Clarke approaches the Grounder camp outside Camp Jaha and is stopped by Gustus who warns her he'll slit her throat at the slightest provocation. Clarke enters the Commander's tent and meets Lexa, who is seated on a throne with Indra on one side. Clarke tells Lexa about Mount Weather and about how she and Anya escaped together and presents Lexa with a braid from Anya's hair. Clarke lies that they can turn the Reapers back into Grounders because she's done it with Lincoln. Lexa demands Clarke prove it.

Clarke leads Lexa and her guard through the carnage outside the drop ship while Abby is trying to get Lincoln to breathe again. Abby finally gives up and says that Lincoln is gone. Octavia refuses to believe her and continues chest compressions. Clarke and everyone else enters at that moment and they are at a standstill with everyone going for their weapons. Abby picks up the shock baton and holds it in front of her before using it as a defibrillator on Lincoln, shocking him twice before he starts breathing again, much to the Grounders' surprise and the Sky Peoples' relief. Later, when Clarke is back with Lexa in her tent outside Camp Jaha, Lexa tells Clarke that she's willing to have a truce as soon as Finn dies.

In Spacewalker, Clarke arrives at Camp Jaha after speaking with Lexa, who had ordered Finn's death for the massacre of Tondc before their truce with the Sky People can begin. Most of the Sky People want to give Finn up to the Grounders, especially because he wasted three months of oxygen on The Ark for the spacewalk that got him imprisoned.

Later, Clarke visits with Lincoln who is recovering from being a Reaper. Abby asks Lincoln how to negotiate with Lexa in order to save Finn but he says there is no way out of it and Finn must die. Octavia asks what would happen to him and Lincoln tells them that because Finn killed 18, he will suffer 18 deaths as a result. They then hear the Grounders chanting loudly, "Jus drein jus daun!" ("Blood must have blood!"). Abby walks up to the gate to talk to the two riders Lexa left behind and tells them the Sky People are ready to fight if that is what it comes to. The riders take off back to Lexa's camp and they see someone else approaching: Marcus Kane. Kane and Abby go to talk with Lincoln again and ask if Lexa would be willing to accept a deal where the Sky People put Finn on trial instead. Lincoln tells them it's not possible because Finn killed innocent people and they're already lucky because if it were up to Indra, all of the Sky People would be dead.

At the dropship, Clarke, Raven, Bellamy, and Murphy are trying to save Finn from the Grounders' justice. Bellamy shouts a warning to them that the Grounders have arrived and they're surrounded. Finn tells them they need to stay and defend the drop ship. He then climbs out the bottom of the drop ship. Clarke, Raven, and Bellamy are watching the front gate when they see Finn step out in front of them and surrender himself to the Grounders.

Back at Camp Jaha, Clarke, Raven, Bellamy, and the rest of the Sky People watch as the Grounders start setting up for Finn's execution. Abby says there is nothing to be done. Clarke, Raven, and Bellamy then meet up at Raven's Gate where Raven gives Clarke a knife so Clarke can kill Lexa because Raven owes Finn her life. Clarke approaches Lexa's tent and Indra stops her with a spear. Clarke presses against the spear, drawing blood. Lexa tells Indra to let Clarke through. Clarke begs Lexa to show how powerful she is by having mercy and that Finn killed those people for her. Lexa tells Clarke that Finn will die for her, then. Clarke asks if she can say goodbye and Lexa allows her to. Clarke walks over to Finn and hugs him, telling him she loves him and that he will be okay. He says, "thanks, Princess" and she steps away from him to reveal that she had killed him with the knife Raven gave her. Lexa tells her warriors that it is done and keeps them from attacking.

In Remember Me, Lexa tells Clarke that Finn's body will be given to the people of Tondc since Clarke denied them their justice. Kane and Abby get into a disagreement with Indra over this but Clarke agrees to it. She says once it's done, they will then talk about getting all of their people, both Sky People and Grounders, out of Mount Weather. Clarke tells Abby that if the truce doesn't hold, then she killed Finn for nothing and walks away. Abby tells Kane that the Grounders are being led by a child and he tells her, "so are we."

On the journey from Camp Jaha to Tondc, Lexa, and Gustus are riding on horses and discussing the alliance in Trigedasleng. Gustus doesn't think it's a good idea, as the Sky People are more like Mountain Men and he is worried for her safety. Lexa just tells him to do his job and protect her. They arrive at Tondc the next day and everyone has to disarm before entering. Raven stubbornly forces Gustus to search her and disarm her. As they enter the village, Grounders shout at the Sky People, calling them murderers. One man stands in their way because he lost both his wife and child. Gustus fights the man and is about to kill him when Clarke begs Lexa to stop him so the Sky People won't get blamed. Lexa calls it off and announces to everyone that if anyone tries to stop the alliance, they will pay with their life.

Remember Me 045 (Clarke and Lexa) — Clarke and Lexa at the funeral for the victims of the massacre

Lexa gives a eulogy for the dead in front of a funeral pyre. She then passes the torch to Clarke who steps up and as she lights the pyre guided by Finn's hand, she says, "Yu gonplei ste odon" ("Your fight is over"), much to Indra's and Nyko's surprise. Later, Lexa and Clarke stand over the ashes of the funeral pyre as Lexa tells Clarke about Costia, who was captured by the Ice Queen because she belonged to Lexa. They tortured her and cut off her head because they thought she might know Lexa's secrets. She got over the pain by recognizing that love is weakness. If Clarke doesn't do the same, then she puts the people she cares about in danger and the pain will never go away.

Later, at the alliance banquet, Kane brings forward some liquor to share. Clarke and Lexa both take a goblet but Gustus stops Lexa and takes a sip first before giving it back to her. As they toast and are about to take a sip, Gustus falls over having been poisoned. The Sky People are searched and they find the poison on Raven. She claims it is not hers and that Gustus put it there when he searched her. Lexa commands for all of the Sky People to be locked up. Octavia asks Lincoln to do something and Lincoln asks Indra to let him speak for the Sky People. Indra tells Lincoln he is one of them before locking them all up.

Remember Me 090 (Lexa and Gustus) — Lexa prepares to execute Gustus

Clarke asks Raven if she really had tried to poison Lexa and Raven punches Clarke in the face. Kane goes over to talk to Clarke and tells her that they need to figure out who would want Lexa dead. They come to the conclusion that the poisoner had to be someone who was trying to break the alliance. Nyko and Indra return and take Raven away. Indra tells them that Lexa is merciful and only wants Raven to die. The rest of them are free and they should run. Raven is then tied up outside to a pole where Lexa and Indra begin the Death by a Thousand Cuts. Clarke realizes the poison wasn't in the bottle; it was in the cup. She runs outside and asks Nyko for the bottle and drinks from it, showing it wasn't poisoned. Bellamy realizes that it was Gustus who poisoned the cup because he was trying to protect Lexa from the alliance. Lexa commands him to be tied up in Raven's place. At the end of Gustus' Death of a Thousand Cuts, Lexa approaches and Gustus tells her to be strong. She says, "Yu gonplei ste odon," as she delivers the final blow straight through his heart.

In Survival of the Fittest, Lexa and Clarke are back in Tondc, planning a way to get both of their people out of Mount Weather. Quint gets argumentative with Clarke before storming off saying he can't be in an alliance with the Sky People. Lexa tells Clarke that waiting for Bellamy to get into Mount Weather is a prayer, not a plan. Clarke excuses herself for some fresh air and Major Byrne follows after.

Clarke is wandering around outside when she spots Quint tracking her. He starts to taunt her and shoots arrows at her as she runs. Clarke pauses while running from Quint and sees Byrne whose arm has been ripped off. Byrne tells Clarke to save herself. Clarke is running through the woods when she is attacked by Quint. Lexa comes up and tells Clarke she can kill Quint when they hear a loud roar. Lexa says it's "Pauna" and slices Quint's leg while telling Clarke to run. The Pauna (a giant mutant gorilla) attacks Quint while Clarke, Lexa, and her guard look for a place to hide. They quickly realize their hiding place is actually the feeding ground of the Pauna when she leaps over and attacks and kills their guard. Clarke shoots at the Pauna but the bullets don't stop her and she chases after Clarke and Lexa, causing Lexa to injure herself. The Pauna grabs hold of Lexa and Clarke refuses to leave Lexa behind, saving her life even as they trap themselves into a room.

Survival of the Fittest 046 (Clarke and Lexa) — Lexa and Clarke face the Pauna

Lexa tells Clarke that she's being weak by helping her escape the Pauna. Clarke tells Lexa that she needs her because she's smart. The Pauna finds them and begins beating against the door. Clarke has Lexa stand on one side of the door while the let the Pauna charge in and then race out the door, shutting it behind them and trapping the Pauna in the room. Later that night, Clarke awakens to find Lexa watching over her in the woods. The Pauna is still trapped and they are safe as long as the cage holds. This gives Clarke the idea of using all the caged Grounders trapped in Mount Weather as an army as long as Bellamy can get inside and release them.

In Coup de Grâce, photographs of her and Clarke are retrieved from some Mountain Men who were sent as assassins.

In Rubicon, Clarke rides into Tondc and tells Octavia to take her to Lexa. In the woods outside Tondc, a Mountain Man (Whitman) reports back to Mount Weather that Clarke has arrived. Clarke and Lexa go someplace private and Clarke tells Lexa about the missile headed for Tondc. Lexa tells Clarke that they can't tell anyone about the missile because then Mount Weather will know they were warned ahead of time. Clarke wants to warn everyone but Lexa tells her that if she really did, then she would have done so before telling Lexa about the missile. Lexa and Clarke then leave. As they are sneaking out of Tondc, Clarke hesitates and tells Lexa they should find the spotter. She suddenly sees her mom in Tondc and goes back for her. Clarke gets Abby to leave with her while Kane and Indra realize Clarke and Lexa have gone missing. The missile lands on Tondc causing a massive explosion that knocks Clarke and Abby off their feet. Clarke's ears are ringing as she checks on her mom, telling her they have to go. Abby realizes that Clarke knew about the missile ahead of time and can't believe that Clarke would let it happen. She begs Clarke to tell her it was Lexa and it wasn't Clarke who did it, telling her she crossed a line but her secret is safe. Abby leaves in disgust and sadness and heads back into Tondc.

In Resurrection, after the missile explodes on Tondc, Lexa grabs Clarke and shakes her to attention, telling her, "victory stands on the back of sacrifice." Clarke states that she wants all of the Mountain Men dead. Clarke tells Lexa that the spotter is the one who is shooting at the survivors and that she's going to find him and kill him. They begin hiking around Tondc as they look for the sniper, Whitman. Lexa keeps trying to convince Clarke that she did the right thing. They hear a noise ahead of them and run into Lincoln who is also going after the sniper.

Resurrection 008 (Lexa) — Clarke and Lexa look for the sniper

Lincoln is shocked to see both Clarke and Lexa are safe and not in Tondc. He goes with them as they search for the sniper. They start looking for Whitman on higher ground but he spots them first and fires at them. Clarke draws his fire while Lincoln sneaks up on him and attacks Whitman. The sniper uses a tone generator to incapacitate him and holds Lincoln hostage with a knife while pointing a gun at Clarke. Lincoln tells Clarke to let Whitman kill him and then shoot Whitman because her people need her. Clarke replies, "You are my people," and kills the sniper in one shot through Lincoln's shoulder.

Lincoln returns with Clarke and Lexa and reunites with Octavia. Lexa starts to give a speech about making the Mountain fall and avenging the dead when Abby interrupts and tells them there are still others who need saving and to get back to work. Later, Clarke and Lexa leave for Mount Weather with Octavia, Lincoln, Indra, and the rest of their army.

In Bodyguard of Lies, in the Grounder camp outside Mount Weather, Clarke is stressing over the battle plans and Lexa tells her she should rest because she is wasting her energy. Clarke worries over whether or not Bellamy will be successful and Lexa tells her that's what it means to be a leader. Lexa tells her she was born to be a leader, just like her. Later outside, Clarke approaches Octavia across from a campfire. Octavia confronts Clarke about the bombing of Tondc and asks Clarke to tell her she didn't know it was coming. Clarke tells her she did it to save Bellamy and Octavia tells her that Bellamy would have never agreed to it and would have found another way. Clarke tells Octavia she cannot tell anyone and Octavia says she knows; the alliance would break. They are then interrupted by Lexa and Ryder, one of her warriors. Ryder tells Octavia to go relieve the southernmost guard position. Octavia tells them Indra expects her to be on a scouting mission with Lincoln. Ryder tells her that Indra will join her there shortly and Octavia walks off. Clarke tells Lexa that Octavia won't say anything and Lexa says she can't be sure of that. After Clarke leaves, Lexa tells Ryder to kill Octavia.

Clarke spots Indra seated near a fire and asks her why she is not on watch with Octavia. Indra tells her she doesn't stand watch and Clarke then asks where Octavia is. Indra tells her that she is with Lincoln, scouting as planned. Clarke then heads off to find Octavia and spots Ryder with an arrow aimed at Octavia. Clarke points her gun at his head and tells him to stand down and come with her and she leads him away from Octavia. Clarke brings Ryder back to Lexa and tells her that Octavia is not a problem. Lexa tells Ryder to stand down and sends him away. Clarke tells Lexa she can't kill anyone she doesn't trust. Lexa says yes, she can. She calls Octavia a threat and Clarke tells her that Octavia wouldn't ever endanger her brother's life. She then tells Lexa that she's a liar and really does have feelings, about Gustus, about Costia, and about the people who burned in Tondc. Lexa tells Clarke that she didn't let her burn. Clarke asks for Lexa to trust her that Octavia is not a threat and then warns Lexa that if she does anything to Octavia, Clarke will tell everyone about the missile.

PromoLexaClarke 2x14 — Clarke and Lexa see the flare

Later, Lexa summons Clarke to her tent to tell her that Octavia has nothing to fear from Lexa because Lexa trusts Clarke. Lexa tells her that their ways may be harsh but it is how they survive. Clarke asks if maybe they deserve more out of life than just surviving and Lexa kisses Clarke. Clarke returns the kiss before breaking away, telling Lexa that she is not ready to be with anyone. The Grounders then raise the alert that a flare has been spotted and they prepare for battle. Lexa tells them to sound the horn and announces they are going to war.

In Blood Must Have Blood (Part 1), Clarke and Lexa are in their Command Post tent with their military leaders when Monroe and Sgt. Miller arrive and Sgt. Miller gives her a package of hydrazine from Raven. Abby is not there because she stayed behind to help the wounded from the bombing in Tondc. Lexa and Clarke then begin to discuss the action plan and Clarke makes it clear that it is supposed to be a rescue mission and that they do not want to wipe out the Mountain Men. Clarke explains how there are four teams: one at the dam (Raven and Wick), one in the mines (Indra and Octavia), one inside the mountain (Bellamy and the caged Grounders), and Clarke's team who will take the front door. Clarke has found out from Maya that the main door has a flaw if the power goes out. Raven and Wick will take out the power coming from the dam, causing a one-minute delay before the backup generator kicks in. This gives them one minute to blow the lock on the door. The reason they don't also want to blow the backup generator is because it would leave the Mountain Men without power for too long, killing them all. Clarke then admits that they've lost contact with Bellamy after he blew up the Acid Fog machine. She goes on to tell them that once they get the door open, they will be under heavy fire from Mount Weather and that's what they want. While they're distracting the Mount Weather Guards, Indra and Octavia will be getting the Grounders and Delinquents out the back door and through the Reaper tunnels. Lexa then gives an encouraging speech, ending in the chant of "Jus drein, jus daun." All of the Grounders chant after her.

At Mount Weather's front door, Monroe drills a hole into it so Sgt. Miller can insert the hydrazine bomb to blow the lock. Lincoln follows him to provide protection in case any of the Mountain Men try taking any shots. Sgt. Miller's hands start to shake as he tries to insert the bomb and Lincoln tells him to do it for his son. Sgt. Miller replies that the Mountain has taken enough from both of them and steadily inserts the bomb. Clarke and Lexa then wait for the power to go out. Lexa invites Clarke to their Capitol, Polis, telling her it will make her change the way she thinks about the Grounders. Clarke tells Lexa that she already has. They soon hear gunfire coming from the dam and get ready to blow the door.

In Mount Weather, the power goes out all over the place and Cage Wallace tells Emerson over radio to start the clock for one minute. Emerson tells Cage he's not letting them get near the door. When the light over the door goes off, Sgt. Miller tells Clarke they have one minute to blow the lock. Clarke and Lexa hold the trigger and press the button together but nothing happens. Clarke realizes that Mount Weather is jamming the trigger signal and says she has to get closer. As she starts to approach the door, gunfire rains down from above and Lincoln grabs her to safety. Emerson and his men shoot at them from the ridge above the door, preventing them from getting close to the door. A group of Grounders create a shield to take Sgt. Miller to the door so he can trigger it manually. They are all shot down before they can make it. They only have a few seconds left when Lincoln comes up with the idea to use a flaming arrow to trigger the bomb on the door. He makes the shot with only a second to spare and the lock is blown. Lexa tells Lincoln to remain with Clarke while she takes a group up the ridge to take down Emerson's contingent so they can work on getting the door open. After the shooting has stopped, Lincoln commands the other Grounders to start hooking lines onto the door so they can pull it open. As the door creaks open, Clarke gives the command to attack just as Lexa interrupts, telling them all to stand down.

PromoLexa 2x15 — Lexa tells Clarke she agreed to a truce with the Mountain Men

Lexa arrives from the ridge, towing Emerson along just as through the open door, harvested Grounders start stumbling out. Clarke asks if that means they surrendered and Emerson says, "not quite." Clarke asks Lexa what she did and Lexa tells her she saved her people but Clarke's people were not part of the deal. Emerson then heads back inside Mount Weather as Echo and the last of the Grounders are released. Lincoln asks Clarke what is going on and Clarke tells him what Lexa did. Lexa tells Lincoln the deal is done and orders the retreat to be sounded. Lincoln refuses to retreat and Lexa has him restrained. She then turns to Clarke and says, "may we meet again," before leaving with her army.

In Wanheda (Part 2), Lexa rises from her throne at Polis, flanked by Indra and Titus. Roan enters the room and presents Wanheda, Clarke, to her. Lexa is annoyed with the fact that Clarke is hurt, stating that she wanted Clarke brought to her unarmed. Roan explains that she didn't make it easy for him, and Lexa admits she didn't expect anything else. He demands that Lexa does her end of the deal and lift his banishment, but she refuses because his mother's army is marching on Polis. Roan tells her that isn't her fault, but Lexa says that she will only honor their deal when his mother honors her Coalition She orders the guards to lock Prince Roan up, and tells Indra and Titus to leave her alone with Clarke, which they do but with much reluctance and hesitation. Lexa frees Clarke from her binds and apologizes, saying that she didn't want it to be like this but had to find her before the Ice Nation could. She then tells Clarke that war is brewing and she needs her help. Clarke is infuriated and spits on Lexa. The guards drag Clarke away as she screams "You wanted the Commander of Death, you got her!" and death threats. Lexa wipes the spit off of her face and walks out onto the balcony of her tower.

In Ye Who Enter Here, Lexa confronts Clarke a week after the events of the prior episodes. Clarke says she doesn't want to see her, however, with the Ice Nation threatening the Coalition Lexa stresses that they have more important matters to discuss. Lexa has a meeting with Marcus Kane and Abby about having the Sky People join her Coalition as the thirteenth clan. In order for the Sky People to become a member Clarke has to bow to Lexa, which she refuses to do and instead says that if Lexa wants the power of Wanheda, she should kill her. After Lexa's conversation with Clarke, she goes to meet the delegates from the other twelve clans. The delegate from the Ice Nation refuses to bow to Lexa when she walks in, questioning why Wanheda was not dead yet. He then goes to say that if it was Lexa's weakness preventing her from killing Wanheda that the Ice Nation would gladly step in. (referring to the Ice Nation's capture and murdering of Costia) Lexa tells the delegate that she has a message for Nia and wants to speak to him in private. When he walks over, she kicks him off the tower to his death and turns to ask if any of the other delegates have any objections.

Lexa is later seen sparring with a young boy, Aden, during the match, he is successful in blocking her attacks, which she praises him for before pushing him back and restarting the match. The second round Aden is still successful in blocking her attacks and even counters with a backhand to the face when Lexa pins his sword down. This is met with silence before Titus dismisses the "Nightbloods" to spar amongst themselves so he may talk to Lexa. Lexa tells him Aden is ready and is a better warrior than she was before her Conclave. Titus then speaks to her about Clarke, voicing his concerns, Lexa's response is that Clarke is special. Titus's response is that Lexa should kill her and gain her power.

Lexa goes to Clarke's room when Clarke summons her and when Lexa gets close Clarke pulls a knife on her and presses it to her throat. Instead of fighting back, Lexa says that she is sorry that she turned Clarke into who she has become. Clarke drops the knife and Lexa tells her that she's free to go, deciding to no longer ask anything of her. As Lexa starts to leave, Clarke calls her back, agreeing to have the Sky People join the Coalition. During the ceremony, Bellamy Blake, Octavia Blake, and Charles Pike storm in under the idea that the summit is a trap from Echo. Lexa has the Ice Nation delegates and Roan arrested and says that Sky People and Woods Clan will combat the threat together. After a war meeting, Lexa and Clarke have a moment. Lexa promises not to betray Clarke again, bowing to her and giving herself to Clarke only rising once Clarke offers her hand.

In Watch the Thrones, Lexa has Queen Nia brought to her to face judgment after her admitting to the destruction of Mt. Weather. Before the Queen can be sent to her death she calls a vote of no confidence in an attempt to dethrone Lexa. The ambassadors vote in favor of dethroning Lexa and her is forced into a death match. Queen Nia chooses Roan to fight for her while Lexa states that no one fights for her and she will fight herself.

Before the fight Lexa speaks with the Nightbloods, going over with them about the qualities they need to become Commander. After the Nightbloods are dismissed she introduces Clarke to Aden, who she claims is the most promising of the Nightbloods and thereby most likely to succeed her if she dies in her fight with Roan. After making Aden promise his loyalty to Clarke's people Lexa dismisses him. Clarke and Lexa argue about Lexa's participation in the fight, Clarke fearing that Lexa will be killed because of Roan's ability as a warrior. Lexa tells Clarke she must accept her fate, to which Clarke refuses to do before leaving the room.

Later Lexa is given knowledge that Nia possesses her own Nightblood, a girl named Ontari. Clarke tries again to pursued Lexa to have another warrior fight for her in the battle, but Lexa again refuses and is escorted to the battle area by Titus after telling Clarke that "this is goodbye, for now."

During her fight with Roan, Lexa manages the first shot after Roan attempts to attack her while her back is turned. The two trade blows until Roan manages to disarm Lexa and knock her down. Before he can unleash the finishing blow, Lexa moves out of the way of the spear and counters his attack. Getting to her feet she manages to disarm Roan, take his spear, and knock him to the ground. Instead of killing him, Lexa turns to the Ice Queen and throws the spear at her, killing her. She then crowns Roan King.

After the fight, Lexa goes to Clarke's room to thank her. Clarke changes the bandage on her hand and asks Lexa what will become of Ontari. Lexa tells her that Ontari will not be back until the Concave after her death, to which Clarke pokes fun at Lexa for always talking about her death. They bid each other goodnight before going their separate ways.

In Hakeldama, Lexa and Clarke head to Arkadia with the body of the dead Ice Queen. Lexa assures Clarke that they bring their people peace before they stumble upon the field with the dead bodies of the peace army sent there. Indra is the only one spared and informs them that Sky People attacked them at night while they were sleeping. Lexa is angered and calls on the armies of the 12 clans to attack Arkadia and kill everyone in it. Clarke tries to convince Lexa to let her go to Arkadia so she can make things right, however, Lexa refuses. Clarke convinces her to use Indra's radio to contact Kane and he could meet them.

When Octavia arrives in Kane's place, she explains to Lexa that Pike was the new leader of Arkadia and that everything was different. Octavia also convinces Lexa to let her get Clarke into Arkadia as a means of trying to fix the situation.

Lexa is convinced by Clarke, after Clarke's failed attempt to get through to Bellamy, that they didn't have to take blood for the battle. As blood having blood only resulted in everyone's death. Convinced to try to be a better leader and show her people peace, Lexa agrees and say that blood will not have blood.

In Bitter Harvest Lexa wakes up from a nightmare, saying that the previous commanders before her were angry about her decision to not attack the Sky People. She believed they were warning her about an assassin that will try to kill her and then start a war. Clarke tells her it was only a dream and to not worry about it. Lexa then discovers that Clarke had drawn her while she was sleeping. When Titus brings them the box with Carl Emerson inside, Lexa calls her guards to take him away when he attacks Clarke. Lexa also backs off when Clarke pushes her away after being helped up.

Later Lexa is arguing with Titus about the fate of the last Mountain Man. When Clarke says that Emerson should be killed, Lexa asks whether their "blood must not have blood" philosophy only applies when it's Lexa's people who bleed. Clarke tries to reason why Emerson should be killed but Lexa gives her until sunset to think it over.

During the ceremony, Lexa gives Clarke her knife to kill Emerson with. Clarke refuses to kill him at the last minute causing the ambassadors to stir. Lexa silences them and tells them that Wanheda was showing them a better way and that they should adapt to "blood must not have blood" in order to allow their people to thrive and grow without the fear of war and death.

In Nevermore, a distraught Clarke begs Jasper not to destroy the Flame as it contains Lexa's consciousness. Clarke remembers seeing the Flame being removed from Lexa and realizes that she needs to remove the liquified chip from Raven in the same way in order to save Raven.

In Perverse Instantiation (Part 2), Lexa appears to Clarke while in the City of Light. As Clarke is now the interim commander and currently has the flame, she can see and interact with previous commanders. Clarke tells Lexa that she thought that she would never see her again, to which Lexa returns that she will always be with her and 'her fight is not over'. Lexa tells Clarke that they must move, and as they do, Clarke falls to the ground in pain. Moments later, things start to change within the City of Light, Lexa says that A.L.I.E is uploading version 2.0 of her code to the City of Light and soon, she'll completely take over. At that moment, Bekka Pramheda gives the two a sign to follow — to find the kill switch — in the form of a girl riding a bicycle. Clarke and Lexa follow the girl, only to end up in a dead end, as there is a fence in their path, a firewall. The two try to find another way around but are ultimately trapped by A.L.I.E's forces. Raven helps them by coding a doorway, however, Lexa tells Clarke to go on ahead, and that she will always be with her. Clarke tells Lexa she loves her and goes to find the switch. Lexa charges at the men and kills many of them.

In Damocles (Part 1), Madi, now the new Commander, tells Clarke that every time she goes to sleep, Lexa shows her Lexa's betrayal of Clarke outside of Mount Weather. Clarke interprets it as Lexa showing Madi that she did the exact same thing to protect her people as Clarke is currently doing to protect Madi and states that she doesn't need ghosts interfering. Madi states that Lexa and the spirits of all of the other Commanders are real and Clarke is wrong about why Lexa is showing her that memory. For Lexa, her betrayal of Clarke is her deepest regret and she's showing it to Madi so that Clarke won't make that same mistake. Lexa's message drives Clarke to tears and helps to convince her to let Madi lead Wonkru.

In The Blood of Sanctum, Sheidheda, possessing Madi, tells Clarke that Lexa had said that Clarke was strong, but accuses Clarke of being as weak as Lexa due to her love.

Raven is later forced to delete the Flame to save Madi, though Sheidheda is uploaded to an unknown location. It is left unknown if Lexa and the other Commanders were uploaded as well or if their minds were deleted with the Flame.

Personality

Lexa, as leader of the Grounders, commands respect and is very powerful. She is considered a "visionary" and is willing to show mercy and to trust the Sky People in the hopes of forming an alliance. Lexa has a neutral personality and is more logic-based and acts quite cynical. After Costia, the woman she was in love with, was killed by the Ice Nation trying to gain information on Lexa, she decided to detach herself from people emotionally, believing love was a weakness she could not afford to have. As a leader, she is willing to do anything for her people's safety. Lexa is loyal to her people to a fault, and this can result in her going against her word when it benefits her people. She broke deals with both Roan and Clarke, because of her desire to do what's best for her people.

Lexa has a soft spot for the children she trains. In "Ye Who Enter Here", Lexa is seen training with one of the Nightbloods, Aden, praising him during their match and backing off when he manages to hit her rather than countering.

She has been shown to care greatly about the people she loves, like Clarke, so far that their opinions influence her decisions. This has been shown multiple times during the show. Due to her connection and love for Clarke, it has been seen that she cares greatly about Clarke's people and family. Lexa made the young Nightbloods swear their loyalty to the thirteenth clan in the event that they became Commander.

As revealed by Madi in "Damocles (Part 1)", Lexa's biggest regret was that she betrayed Clarke outside of Mount Weather and she grew to no longer believe that love is a weakness.

Physical Appearance

Lexa is of average height, slim, with a high forehead, full lips, tanned skin, blue-green eyes and a youthful face. She wears tribal face paint most of the time but has been seen without it. She also has long, wavy brown hair that she keeps in braids.

Relationships

Anya

Anya was Lexa's mentor before Lexa was called to be the leader of her people. Lexa has been shown to care very deeply for Anya. Lexa began trusting Clarke because of her past relationship with Anya, showing how close she was to Anya.

Gustus

Lexa is Gustus' leader and Gustus is presumably one of her high-ranking warriors in her clan. Gustus is very protective and holds high respect for Lexa. Gustus pretended to be the Commander in "Fog of War" so Lexa could gather information from Jaha and Kane when they were imprisoned in an underground cell together. After Lexa is revealed to be the real Commander, Gustus hands Lexa her armor back.

Later on, it is Gustus' loyalty to Lexa that gets him killed. In "Remember Me", he tries to ruin the alliance between the Grounders and Sky People in order to keep Lexa safe, however, Lexa orders him to be killed by the Death by a Thousand Cuts. Gustus seems to accept his punishment and tells Lexa to "be strong" before she kills him.

Marcus Kane

Marcus Kane and Lexa had spent some time together following his imprisonment. Kane believed that Lexa was a visionary and would be open for more negotiations, referring to her practical nature.

Clarke Griffin

Lexa's people and Clarke's people have been at war with each other for the entire first season and first half of the second season. Lexa officially meets Clarke in "Long Into an Abyss" when Clarke goes to Lexa in order to put aside their differences and create peace between their people. They both respect each other very much and are shown to be alike in some ways. They shared a mutual respect and the task of leadership over their allied clans, often making hard decisions together. They kiss in "Bodyguard of Lies", however, Clarke notes that she is not ready for a relationship so soon after Finn's death under Lexa's orders. Their relationship becomes strained after "Blood Must Have Blood (Part 1)", as Lexa betrays the Sky People by not marching forward on Mount Weather in order to save her own people.

The two reunite in "Wanheda (Part 2)," after an intense meeting, Lexa starts making strides to help heal their relationship. In "Ye Who Enter Here," Lexa had respected Clarke's refusal to meet with her for a week before confronting her about having Sky People join the Coalition. Later Lexa bows to Clarke and promises not to betray her again. In "Watch the Thrones," Clarke warms up to Lexa slightly, saying she doesn't want to watch Lexa die and later treating her injured hand after the fight. In "Hakeldama," Clarke and Lexa agree that "blood must not have blood" and Lexa allows Clarke's people to live after killing 320 of her warriors in hope to prevent a war. In "Bitter Harvest," Clarke and Lexa are comfortable in each other's presence. Clarke comforts Lexa after a nightmare and had drawn Lexa while she was sleeping. The two sleep together in "Thirteen" before Lexa is accidentally killed by Titus to Clarke's great grief.

After Lexa's death, Clarke was shown to still love her deeply and never forget her. In "Perverse Instantiation (Part 2)," Clarke instinctively summons Lexa's spirit to aid her in the City of Light through the Flame and the two share a kiss. Clarke admits that she loves Lexa before they part ways. In "Damocles (Part 1)," Lexa's spirit shows Madi her greatest regret, betraying Clarke, to help prevent Clarke from making the same mistake. Hearing Lexa's message drives Clarke to tears and helps to convince her to do the right thing. It's also shown that Clarke helped Lexa understand that love is in fact not a weakness as she had believed.

Costia

Lexa tells Clarke about Costia in "Remember Me". Costia was captured by the Ice Queen, Nia, because she belonged to Lexa. They tortured her and cut off her head because they thought she might know Lexa's secrets. Lexa got over the pain of her death by recognizing that love is weakness.

In "Watch the Thrones", it is hinted that Lexa kills Nia as punishment for killing Costia. Lexa says "Jus drein jus daun" before killing Nia.

Nia

Lexa and Nia have a very hostile relationship. At some point before the Grounders formed the Coalition, the Ice Nation (Nia's Clan) and the Woods Clan (Lexa's Clan) were at war with each other. During the war, Nia captured Costia, Lexa's lover at the time; then tortured her for information on Lexa, killed her, and cut off her head.

In the episode "Watch the Thrones", Lexa kills Nia by throwing a spear at her. Before throwing the spear Lexa says "Jus Drein Jus Daun", claiming blood in return for Costia's murder.

Aden

Lexa and Aden spar in "Ye Who Enter Here". She praises him during the fight before he manages to hit her, causing her to tell Titus that Aden is ready for the convocation and that he is a better fighter than she was at his age.

In "Watch the Thrones", Lexa tells Clarke that Aden is the most promising of the Nightbloods and believe he will succeed her. Aden hints that he doesn't want Lexa to die in her fight with Roan by saying "If" he becomes Heda rather than "When." Aden is present during Lexa's fight and is relieved to see she won.

In "Stealing Fire", Aden tells Clarke that all the Nightbloods would honor their word to protect the Sky People if any one of them became Heda because they all loved Lexa.

Luna

Luna and Lexa grew up together since they were both Nightbloods. They were paired up to fight to the death during the second round of their Conclave. Luna flies before the fight so she wouldn't have to kill Lexa.

In return, Titus tells Clarke that Lexa wouldn't allow him to hunt down and kill Luna. This could mean that she didn't want her warriors to be killed, or that she and Luna were acquainted with one another.

The character was named after Alexandria, a city in Virginia, close to Washington, D.C.^[5]
- While naming Lexa, they tried many variations of "Alexandria" including Alexa, Andria, and Xandria.^[6]
- Many new characters have temporary names in the writers room. Lexa's was Rosslyn, after a neighborhood in Virginia.^[7]
The reason Lexa's hair was covered when she first appears is because her braids were so intricate that she'd need to have help with them,^[8] which would defeat the purpose of her disguise from Kane and Jaha.
A tweet from Kim Shumway teased a "Lunexa" ship, indicating that she and Luna may be friends.^[9]
Lexa is a few years older than Clarke,^[10] although Alycia Debnam-Carey, who plays Lexa, is younger than Eliza Taylor, who plays Clarke.
Lexa has been trained to be a warrior since she was two.^[1]
When creating her character, Lexa was originally imagined as a child around ten or so, but the idea was scrapped due to restrictions on working with children.^[11]
