“ | I admit it. I'm impressed. Your mother would be proud, Monty. | ” |
— Kara to Monty [src] |
Kara Cooper was a recurring character in the fifth season. She was portrayed by cast member Kyra Zagorsky and debuted in "Red Queen".
Kara was a member of Skaikru that survived the Second Nuclear Apocalypse inside the Second Dawn Bunker along with the rest of Wonkru.
She was later killed by Bellamy Blake and Clarke Griffin when they used the parasitic worms to kill her.
Early Life[]
She was born on the Ark. She was a third-generation Farm Station resident, and she managed the hydroponic farm. Her father died as part of the Ark's culling. Her husband was culled during the bunker culling.
Throughout the Series[]
In Red Queen, in a flashback, Kara is in charge of the food inside the bunker. Octavia wants to know if they can survive for five years with the food that they have in storage. Kara tells her that the overpopulation of the bunker will inhibit them to survive for longer than five years.
Seeing as the only solution to the problem is a population reduction, Kara decides to take matters into her own hand, and leads an uprising against Octavia in order to save her people, by sealing off the bunker's farm from the rest of the clans, leaving them on the other side of the door to starve to death. She then has Marcus Kane and Abigail Griffin locked up. Octavia and Thelonious Jaha manage to open the door. She then tries to kill herself, by shooting herself, to avoid the slow and painful death that she believes Octavia is preparing for her. Octavia stops her by throwing a knife into her hand.
She is then seen in the Gladiator Ring with the other people who broke Wonkru's law. Octavia declares that all the prisoners will fight to death as in a conclave, the winner being rewarded with his/her life, and throws her sword into the ring. Kara is the fastest to go pick up the sword and becomes the first person to win the fight and get out of the ring.
Six years later, she is standing next to Octavia with tattoos on her forehead and holding a spear. She is now a member of Octavia's close guard with Nathan Miller, Indra, and Gaia.
In Pandora's Box, she is still standing next to Octavia. She watches Marcus Kane fighting with the other Gladiators. The next day, she is again at Octavia's side to watch Kane's second fight.
In Shifting Sands, she advises Octavia, Indra, Clarke Griffin and Bellamy Blake about the food supply running low. She then marches into the Dead Zone with Octavia, Nathan, Indra, Clarke Griffin, Bellamy Blake, and some other Wonkru members.
In Exit Wounds, when Diyoza offers food, protection and jobs in the valley if Wonkru surrender, Octavia asks Cooper to send patrol that would shoot and kill any defectors caught going towards the Prisoners' ship. When Clarke and Bellamy propose her a plan as using Echo as a spy, Octavia renounces to kill defectors. But later, Kara kills many Wonkru defectors before stopped by Clarke and Bellamy. She tells them that Octavia ordered her order to fire. They confront Octavia who states that she had only promised to let Echo go. And if she was to just let them go without resistance, Diyoza would be suspicious.
In Acceptable Losses, Cooper is noticed by Clarke and Monty, bringing in a body and locking it up in a biolab. When Cooper walks out, they break in and find that she's breeding the worms that attacked them in "Shifting Sands". They inform Bellamy about it and figure out that Cooper is planning on infecting one of the defectors with the worms so that they can use them as a weapon to attack Diyoza and the prisoners at the valley. But that means their friends at the valley would die too. Since Octavia wouldn't listen to Bellamy or Clarke, they go to Indra about it. Indra is shocked. She goes to the bio lab and mercy-kills the surviving defector who was being experimented on. Octavia and Cooper meet them in the lab. Octavia admits that it was her idea. Cooper reports to Octavia that the survivor had lasted long enough for them to send a spy to reach the valley and spread the worms. Clarke, Bellamy and Indra confront Octavia about her plan and the fact that it would kill their friends. Octavia refuses to listen to them saying that they have to do whatever it takes to survive. Their friends deaths would be acceptable losses.
In How We Get to Peace, Kara is seen with Octavia. Clarke, Bellamy and Indra hatch a plan to kill Cooper with the worms; then destroy all the worms and make it look like an accident. Later, Kara is seen with Monty in the bio-farm, sympathizing with him. Suddenly, she hears a noise. When she approaches to see what it is, she is chloroformed by Bellamy and Clarke appears. Monty is shocked and Clarke explains to him their plan to save their friends. Even though he's against it, Monty agrees to help them, saying that they are no longer close to a murder. Kara awakens in her biolab and discovers, horrified, that the worms have been released on her and that Clarke and Bellamy are responsible. She begs them to help her but they refuse. Furious, she says that they will pay for this before the worms kill her. Sadly, Clarke and Bellamy look her at her body.
In The Warriors Will, Kara appears in archive footage.
In The Dark Year, Kara appears again in a flashback, two years after Praimfaya. She is in a meeting with Octavia, Abigail Griffin, and Marcus Kane telling them that a fungus has destroyed the soy bean crop. Abby says there's only one solution, cannibalism. In the cafeteria, she, Indra, Niylah, Nathan Miller, Eric Jackson, Abby, Marcus, and Wonkru are ready to eat the human meat. Kara gags as she eats it.
In A Sort of Homecoming, after returning to a regenerated Earth and the Second Dawn Bunker, Octavia experiences flashbacks of her actions as Blodreina, including forcing Kara into a fight to the death.
Personality[]
She is self-centered and conniving, but after a gladiatorial fight, she became Octavia's close guard. In "How We Get to Peace," she is stated to be worse than Octavia as Blodreina. She is shown to have a cruel side, shamelessly killing her allies who helped her take the bunker’s farm and innocent defectors, as well as conducting experiments on living defectors to breed the worms. However, she has also shown some compassion, such as when she talked with Monty about the potential future the hydrofarm could provide them, as well as appearing disgusted at the thought of eating human meat.
Physical Appearance[]
Kara is tall and skinny with brown eyes, black hair and a tan complexion, with dark black tattoos down the center of her face.
Relationships[]
Octavia Blake[]
During the 6 year period in the bunker, Kara became loyal to Octavia and was one of the closest persons Octavia had. They trusted each other and Kara did everything Octavia ordered her to do without any questions.
