Jacapo Sinclair

Jacapo Sinclair, also known as Sinclair, was a recurring character in the first, second, third and fourth seasons. He was portrayed by actor Alessandro Juliani and debuted in the series premiere.

Sinclair was the Chief Engineer and a former inhabitant of the Ark. On the ground, he continued his duties and supervised the construction of Camp Jaha. In Demons, he was killed by Carl Emerson while protecting Raven Reyes.

Throughout the Series

In Pilot, Sinclair informs Kane in the Earth Monitoring Station that the programming in the Delinquents' wristbands has been lost during the dropship's descent and that they can only see their vital signs.

In Twilight's Last Gleaming, he requests The Chancellor, Thelonious Jaha's permission for The Culling to begin, and for him to press the button to kill everyone in section 17. Thelonious, however, steps forward and presses the button himself.

In Contents Under Pressure, Sinclair can be seen listening in on the transmission The Ark is receiving. Sinclair manages to zero in on the frequency channel Raven Reyes is using. When Clarke Griffin gets on the microphone and reveals that Wells Jaha is dead, Sinclair feels remorse for Thelonious.

In Unity Day, Sinclair is seen informing Jaha that a few stations on The Ark have lost all power. He then informs him that if Diana Sydney manages to take off in the Exodus ship then she will cut off almost all power on The Ark, killing most of the Citizens. Later he is seen aiding Jaha, Kane, and a few other guards try to keep the doors to the Exodus Ship open to prevent its launch. They are able to keep the doors open but, it is forced closed when a man jumps on the Exodus Ship after he learns from Diana Sydney that there are not enough drop ships for all the Citizens on the Ark. Sinclair and the others stand back, the Exodus Ship takes off and all power on the Ark is lost.

In The Calm, Sinclair is mentioned by Kyle Wick, who said Sinclair instructed him to hold open a door. Sinclair can be seen in Earth Monitoring Station alongside Jaha and a few others after The Ark suffered catastrophic failure. Sinclair and the others are running out of oxygen, and decide that before they die they will supply as much power to as many stations as possible. However, Kane and a few others come in and rescue them, giving them oxygen masks. When Sinclair and the others are brought to their feet, Sinclair and Wick explain how there might be some survivors who might have been thrown off of the ship by Diana Sydney, as they state there are apparently some stations close to the Exodus Ship launch area which are still intact.

In We Are Grounders (Part 1), Sinclair can be seen in Earth Monitoring station working with Kane to figure out a solution to save The Ark. However, Sinclair sees there is no hope and requests to go home to his wife. Jaha then walks into the room and asks Sinclair if they use The Ark's thrusters to get to the ground, how much will be destroyed, which Sinclair tells him 95%. Sinclair is then instructed to locate the 5% that will survive and everyone will be stationed there in order to make it to the ground. Sinclair opens the blueprints given to him by Jaha and gets straight to work.

In We Are Grounders (Part 2), Sinclair explains the to the inhabitants of the Ark the workings and possible consequences of using the Ark to return Earth, explaining that some parts of the Ark will be destroyed when entering the atmosphere along with the people inside. After everyone is strapped in for the descent, Sinclair tries to remotely separate the Ark's stations from the Earth Monitoring Station with explosives so they can use the Ark's thrusters to blast them towards Earth, but the remote detonation fails and Sinclair informs Jaha that someone will have to manually detonate the bombs, therefore, someone must stay behind. Kane volunteers and is ready to leave. Sinclair tells Abby that he will have one week of air left two at the most. The Ark suddenly shakes as the bombs explode as Jaha has gone to the Earth Monitoring Station to manually detonate the bombs. The Earth Monitoring station separates from the other stations, which start heading for Earth as the thrusters activate. Sinclair survived the crash landing with Abby and Kane and is now on Earth with them.

In The 48, Sinclair first appears along with Abby and the rest of the survivors of Mecha Station's crash after Kane shoots and kills Tristan. Kane then has a short discussion with Bellamy and Finn, before ordering Sinclair to take Sterling, Monroe, and the majority of the surviving adults back to Alpha Station. Later, when Kane returns to the crashed station, he discovers that Sinclair has named their new home "Camp Jaha". Sinclair then says that there has been no word from Jaha and calls Kane the new Chancellor.

In Many Happy Returns, Sinclair checks the fence that surrounds Camp Jaha and confirms that it is now active. He warns everyone to stay away from it and goes to find Raven Reyes. He instructs her to get working on a radio beacon so that they can make contact with any other Ark stations who made it to Earth.

Later, after Raven and Wick have set up a signal balloon, Sinclair compliments them on the idea. However, Major Byrne then appears and shoots the balloon down and tells them that Grounders can use it to pinpoint their exact location.

In Human Trials, Sinclair is present at a discussion about Mount Weather. He says that he doesn't wish to seem uncaring, but that the 47 Delinquents appear to be in no immediate danger and that they have plenty of time to come up with a plan to free them.

In Spacewalker, he is seen in flashbacks telling Raven that she got her Zero G certification and congratulates her. Raven tells him that she failed the physical but he tells her that he saw her test scores and overruled the rejection.

In Survival of the Fittest, Sinclair arrives at the dropship with many others. He cheerfully greets Jaha and then departs back to Camp Jaha as Thelonious and others embark on a journey to the City of Light.

In Coup de Grâce, Abby mentions that Sinclair gave her a letter from Jaha saying that he left with twelve others for The City of Light.

In Resurrection, Sinclair arrives at Tondc with Jackson and a group of Arkers. He explains that they saw the missile blast from Camp Jaha and that they've come to help out the Grounders affected.

In Ye Who Enter Here, Bellamy, Raven, Gina, and Octavia arrive at Mount Weather and enter the dining room. Sinclair arrives and tells Raven to get working on the electrical problems. Later, as the lights are flickering on and off, Raven and Gina make their way with Sinclair to the mess hall, having been called there in an emergency. In the mess hall, as Charles Pike and Bellamy question Echo, other Farm Station members are grabbing weapons and arming themselves. Sinclair and Pike get into an argument about using the missiles in Mount Weather. Raven says she might be able to help get the launch codes. Sinclair, Raven, and Gina begin digging through the computer files in the Mount Weather Command Center as they look for the codes to the missiles. Gina suggests that Dante might have written down the passcodes and leaves to check the President's office for the codes.

Both Raven and Sinclair still have not found the launch codes. Raven gets frustrated and gives up because it is already dark and they are too late. Sinclair tells her she is someone who does not give up. He says that if she knows of a way to fix something, she fixes it and the reason she won't fix herself is because she feels she deserves it. Raven asks if she is just broken. Sinclair reminds her that he took a chance on her even with her heart defect and she should take a chance on herself, too. Gina radios in that she has not found anything in the president's office as the Ice Nation assassin arrives behind her and stabs her, mortally wounding her. Raven keeps trying to reach Gina as the assassin clears off the president's desk and triggers a monitor to access the program for Mount Weather's self-destruct feature. Gina reaches the radio and tells Raven about the self-destruct and the assassin. Raven and Sinclair chase after the assassin as he runs out the side-door of the Mountain. Sinclair gets tackled by the assassin and they fight, with the assassin getting the upper hand. Raven arrives in time and shoots the assassin dead. Sinclair gets the numbers as Raven tries to reach Gina but Gina is not responding. She starts to head back into the Mountain as Sinclair tries to stop her. Gina is dead, the countdown reaching zero reflects off Gina's eye and Mount Weather explodes, throwing Raven and Sinclair back and killing all of the Farm Station survivors who were inside.

In Terms and Conditions, he was in the bar area helping with the rationing of supplies on Charles Pike's orders.

He later helps Marcus Kane by trying to tamper with Rover One to stop Pike and his followers, but he is caught by Bellamy and is charged with treason.

In Stealing Fire, Sinclair, Kane, and Lincoln are sentenced to death for treason. However, he and Kane are able to escape.

In Fallen, he arrives at a cave with Octavia, Kane, Bryan, Harper, and Nathan.

In Nevermore, he helps build an EMP at Niylah's trading post to save Raven.

In Demons, he is stabbed to death by Carl Emerson while protecting Raven Reyes after Emerson infiltrates Arkadia.

In The Other Side, he appears to Raven Reyes and helps see that Becca is wrong and convinces Raven to go to the bunker.

Personality

Sinclair acts mostly neutral and is loyal and formal towards his superiors. Unlike many characters, Sinclair has shown little to no personal feelings/views in regard to peace or war with the Grounders.

Sinclair is of average height and has frizzy black and gray hair. He also has brown eyes.

Marcus Kane

Sinclair and Marcus have a professional relationship built on mutual respect.

Thelonious Jaha

Sinclair and Jaha share a professional relationship. Sinclair listens to Jaha and goes by all of his orders without question.

Abigail Griffin

Sinclair and Abigail share a professional relationship. They work together in the Monitoring Station. Sinclair watches the screen which shows the status of the Delinquents. He helps Abigail figure out why the delinquents' wristband signals stop transmitting.

Raven Reyes

Sinclair and Raven used to work together on the Ark. Despite being co-workers, they share a strong bond and have a father-daughter relationship. They both care a lot about each other. Raven is seen deeply affected by Sinclair's death.

Notes and Trivia

In We Are Grounders (Part 1), it was revealed that Sinclair has a wife. It is unknown if she is still alive or not. In Nevermore, he says that Raven is all that he has left, implying his wife is gone.
Sinclair was the one who figured out that A.L.I.E. 2.0's activation phrase is "ascende superius". He worked this out by translating the phrase "seek higher things" from Becca's book into Latin.
In Red Sky at Morning, it was revealed that his first name was Jacapo by A.L.I.E. when she mentions his death. This also gave away that someone in Arkadia had taken the chip.
Lindsey Morgan speculates that Sinclair is Raven's dad.^[1]
He was Monty Green's mentor.
Sinclair has the fourth longest series lifespan of a deceased character. First appearing in the Pilot episode and being killed in Demons, this gives him a lifespan covering 41 episodes. The current record for the longest lifespan of a deceased character is held by Thelonious Jaha, having a lifespan covering 60 episodes. The second longest is Jasper Jordan with 56 episodes and the third is Bree, with 52.
Sinclair appears in The Other Side as a hallucination to Raven, and he persuades her to "choose life" instead of going into space to die.
