Early Life Edit
Hardy was born on the Ark and at some point became a member of the Ark Guard and fathered a son. Hardy and his son, Ethan survived the severe damage caused to the Ark by Diana Sydney's Rebellion and the subsequent descent to the ground. He and his son further survived the threat from the Grounders, the Mount Weather War and the War Against A.L.I.E.
Throughout the Series Edit
In We Will Rise, after parts of Alpha Station was burnt by a Grounder named Ilian, Hardy leads a mob of angry Sky People who swarm the prison section where Ilian is being held. As the station was supposed to protect the Sky People from an impending nuclear death wave, (and now cannot be used to protect them), the mob is furious at the destruction of their home. Hardy and the other Arkers break into the lock-up with the intention of lynching Ilian, with Hardy being among the first to attack the arsonist. However, Ilian punches Hardy to the ground when the latter attempts to press his assault too quickly. When Ilian is unable to fight off the rest of the people and is overpowered, Hardy gets back to his feet and joins the rest the Arkers in beating and stomping on Ilian. Chancellor Marcus Kane arrives with a contingent of guardsmen to save the helpless prisoner and forces the mob away from Ilian, threatening to shoot the next person who attempts to harm him. Hardy is unwilling to oppose the Chancellor and signals for his gang to disperse. "Good choice", says Kane.
Ilian is taken under guard to the infirmary and Hardy beseeches other Arkadians to join him in demanding that Ilian be executed. "He condemned us to death!" Hardy tells an approving crowd, "I want to make sure he doesn't survive this day! We may have a death sentence coming our way soon but he has one today!" Hardy calls Ilian's burning of their home a hate crime, and goes on to say to his listeners that he worked hard getting Alpha Station ready to survive the nuclear radiation so that his young son might live, but because of Ilian's actions his son will now die. The crowd roars their support for Hardy's cause.
Hardy leads his mob to the locked doors of the infirmary, demanding that they be unlocked, and they are eventually opened by Octavia. Hardy and the other angry Sky People enter the hospital and are confronted by Kane defending Ilian with a pistol. However, David Miller, an Ark Guard who sympathises with Hardy and his followers, stuns Kane in the back with a shock baton. Hardy retrieves Kane's fallen pistol and advances on Ilian, who is lying tied to his sick bed. But before he gets to Ilian, Hardy is stopped by Octavia who demands that she be the one to kill Ilian – Hardy nods in agreement before untying Ilian and manhandling him away.Hardy and another Sky Person drag Ilian outside and dump him on his knees before Octavia and a riled up crowd. Hardy and the others step back as Octavia draws her pistol and aims it at Ilian's head, but before she can carry out the execution, the alarm which warns of the coming of black rain is activated. Hardy and most of the other Sky People run to seek shelter, leaving Ilian and Octavia outside. However, it is a false alarm and Ilian flees Arkadia when Octavia can't bring herself to pull the trigger. A few days later black rain eventually falls on Arkadia. Hardy survives but 18 other Sky People are killed.
In DNR, while most of the Sky People are preparing to march to the bunker, a small rebellious group lock themselves in Arkadia's bar area and refuse to accompany the rest of their people to Polis. Hardy is amongst a group of guardsmen trying to get into the area (in order to force the partying youngsters to go to the bunker for their own good) and bangs on one of the locked doors. The delinquents ignore Hardy and turn up the music, so he unsuccessfully attempts to pry the doors open. Hardy turns to Thelonious Jaha and informs him that all the doors into the compartment have been jammed, but that this particular door is the best one to breach by using explosives. Jaha suggests using gas on those inside, but the idea is rejected on the grounds that the party-goers will simply drown the gas canisters in tubs of water. Bellamy, a guardsman who has friends at the party, thumps on the door and tries to gain their attention. Jasper, turns down the music and walks over to the door and Hardy points out that Jasper is holding a gun. Jaha inquires to Monty, another guardsman, as to how many more of the people inside may be armed and is met by the vague answer of: "I don't know, a few". Jasper approaches the door and puts his hand on the glass window revealing the letters 'DNR' written on his palm. Hardy, puzzled as to what the letters mean, reads them out, and Jaha announces that it's an acronym for 'do not resuscitate'. Bellamy urges Jasper to put down the gun and come out, but Jasper says they aren't leaving. Monty asks him if he's really willing to die when there's a way to live; "well that's just it, we don't think it's a way to live", Jasper replies. Jaha states that they are wasting time and orders Hardy to set a charge on the door. As Hardy prepares the explosive, Bellamy makes a final plea to Jasper urging him to surrender peacefully so that nobody will get hurt, but Jasper simply tells Bellamy that if he doesn't want anyone to get hurt then he shouldn't open the door. Jasper then goes back to the party and Hardy advises everyone that they should clear the hall while the breaching charge is detonated. Jaha declares that he won't leave 'children' to die, but Bellamy points out that that's a hypocritical thing for him to announce considering that he was the one who sent the 100 down to the ground not expecting them to survive. "The difference now, is that they have a choice, and so do you", Bellamy tells Jaha. Monty, realising that Bellamy means to leave Jasper and his companions to die, immediately objects to this, citing that the people at the bar are too drunk to know what they want. Jaha gazes thoughtfully through the window at Jasper before reluctantly giving the order to his men to stand down. Hardy disarms and retrieves the explosive and then retreats with the other guardsmen.
In The Chosen, Hardy's son Ethan is separated from him when the grounders are forcing the Sky people out. Hardy finds Ethan by yelling his name and the two hug when they are reunited. Later, he asks Jaha to save Ethan if his name is not chosen in the lottery. Under Jaha's advice, he starts an unsuccessful riot to save his people, but it doesn't work. Later, Marcus and Jaha decide to use knockout gas to calm the crowd and use Clarke's list to chose who lives and who dies. When Hardy learns that he is not on the list Jaha keeps his promise and picks Ethan up and holds him.
Hardy displays a natural tendency to be a leader and a fierce desire to protect his son. He is also strongwilled and determined.
