Sgt. David Miller was a recurring character in the second, third, and fourth seasons. He was portrayed by actor Chris Shields.
David was a former inhabitant of the Ark. He survived the crash landing to Earth and continued to work for the Guard in Arkadia, eventually becoming their highest-ranking officer.
He had a son, Nathan, who was one of the original 100 sent down to see if Earth was habitable. After Nathan was trapped in Mount Weather, David was one of the most vocal advocates for a search party.
In Season Four, David was among the people who were left outside of the Second Dawn Bunker, and he died off-screen, either from the radiation in the air or when the death wave hit.
Early Life[]
David was born on the Ark and at some point became a guardsman. He fathered a son, Nathan, who was imprisoned for theft before he turned 18.
Throughout the Series[]
In Inclement Weather, he is seen outside with Abby and the delinquents who are out to find the remaining 100. He hands a gun to Bellamy Blake and tells him to find his son.
In Long Into an Abyss, he is seen arguing with Abby about letting him go to find his son, however, Abby disproves and hesitantly tells him to stay put. Later, when Abby is arguing with Thelonious Jaha, Thelonious orders David and Major Byrne to arrest Abby, but Abby counters and tells them to arrest Jaha. They follow her orders and take him away.
In Blood Must Have Blood (Part 1), David is seen alongside Clarke and Lexa as they discuss the plan to take Mount Weather. David's role is to set the charges on the door in order to detonate them. While he is setting the charges, he fears for his son but is comforted by the grounder Lincoln. When the grounders are being pinned down by Mountain Men gunners, Lexa orders a group with shields to aid David towards the door in order to get in close range to detonate the charge. However, when all of the grounders are shot down, it is presumed that David was shot down. However, he is revealed to have survived, and tells Clarke to return to Camp Jaha, but Clarke refuses.
In Blood Must Have Blood (Part 2), he has been captured by Mount Weather guards, and eventually reunites with his son.
In Wanheda (Part 1), while Abby and Kane are discussing Clarke's disappearance, David interrupts them. He tells Kane that there were three clicks on the secure channel, meaning that "she" wants to meet with him. The "she" is later revealed to be Indra.
In Fallen, he along with all of the Arkadia residents took the Key to the City of Light.
In The Four Horsemen, he and his son are at the main gate at Arkadia standing guard when John Murphy returns to Arkadia. Nathan mentions John running off with Emori. so John mentions Bryan. David Nathan appears aggravated so David who was listening and watching tries to change the subject and asks "you here to stay?" Murphy replies "until something better comes along" and walks off. David and Nathan look at each other and Nathan tells his dad to close the gate.
In We Will Rise, he joins Geoff Hardy and many other Skaikru in beating up Ilian. Later when Hardy and the Sky People are marching towards Medical to execute Ilian, he helps Marcus Kane and Monty Green lock down Medical, but when Octavia opens the doors to let Hardy and the others in David betrays Kane and electrocutes Kane with his Shock baton and apologizes. He appears to kind of regret what he did.Personality[]
David has a kind personality, especially to his son Nathan. He shows a high level of devotion to his son and is a strong advocate to sending a rescue party into Mount Weather to retrieve his son and the 47. He has a deep desire to do right by his people, even if he has to break the rules to do so. This is first shown when he doesn’t want to leave the parents of the 47 behind when the Grounders are due to attack Camp Jaha, and then when he reluctantly tases Kane to allow the Arkadians to take revenge on Ilian for burning down Alpha Station. He is also shown to be selfless when he, without hesitation, sacrifices himself to allow his son to live in the bunker.

Quotes[]
David Miller: "Find my son. His name is Nathan Miller."
Notes and Trivia[]
- David revealed that his son's first name was Nathan. Previously, he was simply known as "Miller".
- In Season 4 Episode 12 "Chosen", he put his son Nathan's name in the lottery instead of his own "I want to give him the best chance". When Skaikru was gassed, despite following the list Clarke previously made, Kane honored his wish and kept Nathan in the bunker while sending David out.
