I bear it so they don't have to.
— Dante to Clarke, Bellamy and Monty [src]

Dante Wallace was a recurring character in the second season. He was portrayed by cast member Raymond J. Barry and debuted in The 48.

He was the President of Mount Weather when the Delinquents were captured. He would sometimes side with Cage and Dr. Lorelei Tsing but other times he assisted the Delinquents as he wanted to integrate them with the rest of the Mountain Men.

Throughout the Series

DanteClarke 2x01

Clarke and President Dante

In The 48, Dante Wallace is first seen confronting Clarke Griffin at Mount Weather to explain to her everything that is going on. She demands answers, and he lets her know that they were able to gather up 48 survivors from the camp. He also tells Clarke that he had seen the Ark come crashing down, and will attempt to find more survivors. Throughout the episode, Dante tries to convince Clarke that she is safe at Mount Weather, but Clarke still is not sold.

In Inclement Weather, he is seen in the episode at the dining room at Mount Weather. When Clarke continues to get snoopy and investigates, she notices a member of the 100 who was killed in action by a gunshot wound. Dante has to show Clarke that she is just worried about her friend. When she tries to show a gunshot wound to the Mountain Men, Dante proves her wrong by lying to her by tampering with the body of the dead member.

In Human Trials, he's seen near the end of the episode talking with his son and the doctor who saved Maya Vie. The doctor lets him know that their first human trial was a success, however Dante disapproves as he instructed her not to perform this act yet. After the doctor leaves, his son informs him that the test he did on Lincoln was a success.

Coup de Grace 025 (Dante and Jasper)

Jasper Jordan and President Dante

In Fog of War, he is first seen talking with Cage Wallace and Lorelei Tsing, who are trying to convince Dante that they should forcibly extract blood from the rest of Jasper Jordan's group, considering Maya's recovery from his donated blood. Dante, however, says he wants to handle the situation with dignity, by only taking volunteers from the 100. He then speaks with Jasper, to tell him since his tests worked out, he wants Jasper to convince the 100 to donate blood to Mount Weather. Eventually, when Jasper manages to convince several of them to donate blood, this pleases Dante and thanks Jasper for his efforts. Dante then enters the other room to talk with his son Cage, who he believes is the one behind the radiation breach which almost killed Maya. Cage denies it, but Dante says that if he finds out Cage was behind it, there would be major consequences.

In Long Into an Abyss, he is seen stepping outside onto the ground with Cage. Dante at first is hesitant to watch his son take off the radiation mask, but quickly finds out he does not have to. Dante relishes his time on the outside with his son and takes notice of a yellow flower he picks up. Before they leave, Cage once again tries to convince Dante to forcefully use The 48 to finally enter the outside, but once again Dante refuses and goes back inside. Later he is seen painting, but once he takes notice of the flower he picked up earlier is dying, he loses his inspiration and stops painting.

In Coup de Grâce, he is seen being confronted by Jasper in his office. Jasper takes his sword and threatens to use it on him. Dante astonished asks why he is doing this, and Jasper tells him how two of his friends went missing. Immediately Dante thinks that his Son and Dr. Tsing are responsible, and he attempts to find them with Jasper. Dante along with his guards come across Dr. Tsing performing a Bone Marrow on Harper McIntyre, with Monty Green watching in terror. Dante frees the two and takes Tsing into custody. However, when he confronts his son Cage, the guards turn on Dante as Cage says that everyone else at Mount Weather wishes to leave. Cage is then named the president and takes Dante into custody.

In Rubicon, he is seen in custody in the quarantine room at Mount Weather. While he is playing a record player listening to music, suddenly Bellamy Blake walks in and acts as a guard. Dante turns up the music to make sure they can't hear their conversation, and Dante asks who he is and what he is doing there. He says that Jasper sent to him to ask figure out how they can save their friends from having a Bone Marrow performed on all of them. Dante tells Bellamy a way to cause a radiation leak, causing the deaths of 11, but allowing the delinquents to escape. Later, [[Cage confronts himo let him know that what he has done was pointless, and won't change anything is Cage's plans. He tells Dante that he bombed the grounder allegiance party, with Dante looking in shock. Cage, with little compassion he has, injects Dante with the bone marrow he needs in order to leave Mount Weather, but still keeps him quarantined.

In Blood Must Have Blood (Part 1), he is seen quarantined in his room. Cage walks in to ask for advice, but Dante interrupts him and tells him how disappointing it is to see how much he is messed up in only one week as president. Dante, before Cage walks up tells Cage however that the only way to save their people from the "savages", they must allow the grounders to go, but not the Sky People in order to make sure the threat that faces their people is a small one. When Cage returns to thank him, Dante shows no signs of thankfulness or happiness, only terrified at what he has done to the remaining 100.

In Blood Must Have Blood (Part 2), he is seen being confronted by Clarke, Bellamy, and Monty in his quarantine room. He is taken to the control room to give them information on what they are going to do. On their journey, he reveals that he made the deal with Lexa, and he regrets nothing. When they reach the control room, they find all the Sky People having their bone marrow drilled out of them. Clarke then contacts Cage to say that she will kill Dante if he does not let her people go, and she even lets Dante try to convince him to stop what he is doing by using the walkie talkie. Cage won't comply, so Clarke shoots Dante in the chest, killing him.

Personality

Dante Wallace is the President of Mount Weather. He is calm, nice and also a painter like Clarke Griffin. He is very understanding, but still harbored secrets. He has shown compassion to the 48, as he sees them as good people, unlike the Grounders, who die for the mountain men's needs. However, when he betrays the delinquents, it shows that he cares more about his own people than anything.

Physical Appearance

He has white hair and dark blue eyes. He always seems to wear a dirty suit and his fingers are usually covered in paint.

Relationships

Clarke Griffin

Though Dante says he only wants to keep her and her friends safe, Clarke does not trust Dante or anything he says. She believes that Dante only wants to use the 100, and this is helped when she sees all of the grounders in cages. When speaking with Jasper, Dante tells him that he only wanted Clarke to feel welcome and safe at Mount Weather.

Cage Wallace

Cage Wallace is Dante's son. Dante believes his son has the potential to do good for Mount Weather, so much that he made him top of security. There is also a sense of distrust towards Cage, as he believes that he might have been behind the radiation leak that injured Maya Vie. This distrust is proven when Cage usurps his father's power and grabs the Presidency for himself, locking his father up in quarantine. Dante becomes greatly disappointed in Cage's leadership and even goes so far as to help Bellamy Blake irradiate Level 5 to help the imprisoned Delinquents. Dante eventually realizes it has come down to a choice between his people and the Sky People and he tells Cage to stay the course, sacrificing himself so Cage might have a chance to save the Mountain Men.

Lorelei Tsing

At first, Dante and Dr. Lorelei Tsing appear to be on good terms, however, their relationship appears to sour after Dante disagrees with Dr. Tsing about harvesting the 47 Delinquents and forbade her from going ahead with her trials, only accepting volunteers instead of forcing them. She goes behind Dante's back and, along with Cage Wallace, she continues with her trials until Dante discovers her disobedience and orders her to be locked up. Dante is later removed from office and taken into quarantine by Cage, allowing Dr. Tsing to continue with her trials.

Notes and Trivia

  • In addition to being the President, Dante is also a painter.
  • Due to the lack of sunlight, Dante and the Mountain Men lack a normal level of melanin in their skin, making them appear paler.
  • Although Dante is referred to as President, he holds a role that is more like a patriarch.
    • A patriarchy is when power is passed down through family members. Dante received the position after his father, as did Cage.
  • Dante initially appeared as the main antagonist of season 2, but it was shown to be his son, Cage Wallace.
  • Dante caused the fall of the Sky People and Grounder alliance by freeing all the Grounders since they no longer needed their blood.
