I can't let any of you get hurt anymore. Not because of me. Not after what I did.
— Charlotte to Bellamy, Clarke, and Murphy. [src]

Charlotte was a minor character in the first season of The 100. She was portrayed by Izabela Vidovic and made her debut in Earth Kills.

While on the Ark, Charlotte's parents were arrested and executed. During their execution, Charlotte assaulted a guard and was sent to the Skybox. Charlotte was one of the 100 Delinquents sent down to Earth to see if it's habitable.

While on Earth, Charlotte was repeatedly haunted by nightmares of Chancellor Jaha killing her parents. When asked, Charlotte admitted that she had these dreams nightly. When Bellamy Blake learned of these nightmares, he gave Charlotte the advice to "slay her demons," while she was awake.

Charlotte misinterpreted what Bellamy meant and used his advice to kill Wells Jaha with a knife she stole from John Murphy, hoping his death would stop her nightmares. Murphy was blamed for Wells' death after his knife was found near the body, and was hanged for the crime. Seeing Murphy choking, Charlotte admitted her guilt and Clarke severed the rope, saving Murphy at the last moment.

Not wanting anyone else to get hurt for her actions, Charlotte jumped off a cliff and died by suicide. Charlotte and Wells' death make the Delinquents realize that law and order is required if they are to survive on Earth. Clarke and Bellamy banish Murphy from the group for indirectly causing Charlotte's death.

Early Life[]

Charlotte's parents were floated for breaking an unknown law on The Ark. When her parents' things were being taken to the redistribution center, she assaulted a guard out of rage and was sent to juvenile lockup.

Throughout the Series[]

Earth Kills 009 (Clarke and Charlotte)

Charlotte suffering from a nightmare.

In Earth Kills, Charlotte suffers from a horrible nightmare while trying to sleep. Clarke Griffin finds her and wakes her up from her nightmare. Clarke tries to comfort Charlotte and mentions that it is alright to be scared. Charlotte reveals that both of her parents were floated by Chancellor Jaha. She admits that when they took her parents things, she was overwhelmed by her emotions and assaulted a guard in anger. Clarke comforts Charlotte and stays with her through the night.

Later the next morning, Charlotte follows the hunting party out of camp. When she steps on a twig and scares away a boar, Bellamy Blake almost kills her with a knife thinking her to be a Grounder. When Bellamy ask her what she is doing out there, Charlotte tells him she can't deal being in camp, because of the dying kid. Bellamy smiles and gives her a knife, allowing her to go hunting with them.

When the acid fog comes, Charlotte follows Bellamy to safety from the fog. In the middle of the night, Charlotte once again suffers from her nightmares and wakes up screaming. Bellamy witnesses this and proceeds to give her an encouraging talk about her being afraid, and how to beat what makes her afraid.

Charlotte screaming.

The next morning, Charlotte is heard screaming because she found Atom after he had been caught in the acid fog. Charlotte hands Bellamy a knife when Atom begs for death. Charlotte tells Bellamy not to be afraid. Bellamy tells Charlotte to leave. She seemingly leaves but she actually stays around and witnesses Clarke end Atom’s life.

That night, while Wells Jaha is on watch, Charlotte approaches him and sits next to him. Charlotte says she is sorry and then fatally stabs Wells in the neck to slay her demons. Charlotte tells him she always sees his in her dreams and the only way she feels she will be freed from her nightmares is by killing him. She then hums the same tune Clarke did earlier as Wells dies.

Charlotte watches on as Clarke accuses Murphy of killing Wells.

In Murphy's Law, Charlotte hears Clarke confront Murphy and demand that he tell the truth about Wells death. Murphy, who is not the killer, claims he is innocent of the crime and tries to defend himself. However, a Delinquent, Murphy had upset earlier, demands Murphy be floated for the crime. A mob mentality takes over the 100 and Murphy is strung up.

Charlotte, horrified by the Delinquents actions, confesses she killed Wells. When asked why she stated that Bellamy told her to "slay her demons". Bellamy explains that Charlotte misunderstood what he had said, taking it too literal. Outside of the tent, Murphy demands Bellamy to bring Charlotte out. Charlotte begs Bellamy not to let Murphy or anyone else hurt her. Bellamy recruits Clarke and Finn to watch over Charlotte while he tries to talk Murphy down. Minutes later, Charlotte, Clarke, and Finn escape camp. As they leave, Charlotte hears Murphy calling out for her.

In the forest, Charlotte tries to seek comfort from Clarke. However, Clarke rebuffs Charlotte stating that Charlotte is a killer and that she can't kill someone to make herself feel better. Finn tries to defend Charlotte but is interrupted when the sound of Murphy and his group grow closer. Finn reveals the secret bunker to Clarke and Charlotte. Unknown to Finn and Clarke, Charlotte overhears them discussing what to do with her. She also hears Clarke worry that Murphy will kill them for helping Charlotte. Later that night, Charlotte runs away, attempting to give herself over to Murphy. However, she is found by Bellamy, who continues to try and protect her.

With Murphy still chasing them, Charlotte and Bellamy reach the edge of a cliff. Charlotte watches on as Clarke tries to talk Murphy down. However, Murphy grabs Clarke and holds her hostage. Charlotte gets scared but Murphy tells her that he will not hurt Clarke if Charlotte comes with him. Charlotte is shown to be willing to let Murphy take her. However, both Bellamy and Clarke refuse. Charlotte jumps over the cliff to her death, so Clarke or no one else would get hurt because of what she did to Wells.

In Survival of the Fittest, she is mentioned by Murphy to Thelonious Jaha, as Murphy tells him that Clarke lied to him about Wells' death, and told him that he was actually killed by Charlotte because she couldn't kill Thelonious for what he did to her parents.

Charlotte was an extremely troubled and scared young girl. Although she was not unintelligent, Charlotte did lack a basic understanding of the world. She was also naive, irresponsible, and implosive. Charlotte was naturally shy and eager to please. Charlotte tried to prove herself capable and "not a kid" to Bellamy.

Plagued by nightmares of her parents' deaths, Charlotte became desperate and searched for a way to make them end. When both Clarke and Bellamy offer her comfort and advice on her situation, Charlotte took Bellamy's advice to the extreme. Although Bellamy's words were meant to be a metaphor, Charlotte took them literally and believed that if she "slayed her demons" in the real world she would be free of them in her slumber.

Despite her seemingly psychopathic personality traits, Charlotte was not incapable of feeling affection or remorse. She seemed to show affection for both Clarke and Bellamy, even to the point of looking up to both of them. Charlotte admitted to killing Wells even though she saw what they did to Murphy, the supposed killer.

Charlotte ultimately killed herself, believing herself to be protecting anyone else from getting hurt or dying because of her actions.

Physical Appearance[]

Charlotte was a preteen girl with a slim physique, a pale complexion, dark blonde hair, and brown eyes. Her hair was often worn pulled back and braided. She stood at approximately Height: 5' (1.52 m).

Bellamy Blake[]

"Slay your demons when you're awake, they won't be there to get you in your sleep."
- Bellamy to Charlotte.[src]

Bellamy Blake, the protector.

Charlotte was a young girl that reminded Bellamy of his younger sister, Octavia. The first time the two met is when Charlotte followed him on a hunt, which almost gets her killed. Bellamy offered Charlotte a chance to join them and provided her with a knife. When the Acid Fog strikes, Bellamy helps Charlotte to safety, pulling her in a cave. While in the cave, Charlotte suffers from another nightmare and wakes up screaming. Bellamy tells her slaying her demons is the only way to conquer her fear. The next morning, Bellamy and Charlotte leave the cave and Charlotte begins screaming when she finds a dying Atom, covered in burns from the Acid Fog with his eyes clouded over. Bellamy crouches down next to him as Atom begs him to kill him. Charlotte walks over to Bellamy and hands him her knife, telling him to not be afraid. Bellamy orders everyone back to The Camp and kneels beside Atom. He holds the knife, trying to work up the courage when he notices Clarke arrive. Clarke kneels on the other side of Atom and shakes her head at Bellamy that she won't be able to save him. She tells Atom she's going to help him and begins humming to him as she takes the knife from Bellamy's hand. She gently pushes the knife into Atom's carotid artery and continues to hum to him as he expires. Meanwhile, Charlotte observes, hidden from view.

Later, Wells is outside the camp, sitting on watch when Charlotte approaches him. She tells him she has nightmares every night but she thinks she found a way to make them stop. She tells him she is sorry and then stabs him with a knife in his carotid artery like she saw Clarke do to Atom. Wells grasps at his throat as he reaches toward her and she slices two of his fingertips off as he tumbles down the trench. Charlotte joins him at the bottom of the ditch as he is gurgling and gasping. She tells Wells as he dies that she sees his every night and every day she sees him. The only way for her to make the nightmare end was to slay her demons and begins to softly hum as she sits next to Wells' corpse.

When John Murphy is strung up and accused of Wells' murder, Charlotte confesses, much to Bellamy's shock. Bellamy tells Charlotte that killing someone is not what he meant by slaying her demon. When Murphy wants to capture her and do what Delinquents did to him, Bellamy protects her and Murphy knocks him out so he can go after Charlotte who has escaped with Clarke and Finn. Later that night, Charlotte escapes and attempts to give herself over to Murphy. Bellamy finds her running in the forest and tries to protect her despite her protests that she is not Octavia. With Murphy still chasing them, they find themselves cornered by a cliff. When Bellamy refuses to give her over, Murphy uses Clarke as a hostage in exchange for Charlotte. Charlotte jumps off the cliff to her death, taking her own life before anyone else got hurt. Bellamy is horrified and angered by her death. He tries to kill Murphy by beating him up but is stopped by Clarke and Finn and instead Murphy is banished.

Wells Jaha[]

"I'm sorry."
- Charlotte to Wells.[src]

Wells Jaha, murder victim of Charlotte.

Charlotte was indifferent to Wells Jaha. However, every time she saw his face, she was reminded of Chancellor Jaha, the person who floated her parents. Wells did not mind Charlotte, he even invited her to sit with him moments before his death.

Charlotte did not outright hate him. But to “slay her demons” she kills Wells in hopes that it would stop the nightmares and end her torture. Before and after, Charlotte shows a great amount of remorse for killing him.

Later, Charlotte did confess to his murder, even after she saw how the 100 acted when Murphy was the suspected killer. Charlotte ultimately kills herself because of what she did to Wells.

Clarke Griffin[]

"You killed someone, Charlotte. Ended his life. Did you stop to think about that for even one second? Look at me! You can't just kill someone to make yourself feel better."
- Clarke to Charlotte.[src]

Clarke Griffin, the surrogate mother.

Charlotte looked up to Clarke Griffin. Clarke is shown to care for Charlotte. The first time the two meet is while Charlotte suffers from a nightmare. Clarke wakes her and tries to comfort her. Clarke tells Charlotte that it's alright to be afraid. She also tells Charlotte that the things that happened on the Ark don't matter on Earth. Clarke comforts Charlotte throughout the rest of the night. Later, Charlotte observes Clarke mercy-killing Atom by stabbing him in the jugular and humming a lullaby to comfort him. Charlotte does the same when she murders Wells.

When Clarke accuses Murphy and he is strung up for Wells’ murder, Charlotte confesses much to Clarke's shock. When Bellamy tries to help Charlotte he insists Clarke who is willing to help her, but still wants to see her punished for killing Wells. Later, Charlotte seeks comfort from Clarke, Clarke rebuffs her stating she is a killer and becomes visibly upset with Charlotte. Clarke shows anger towards Charlotte for not even thinking about the consequences of her actions. Charlotte overhears Finn and Clarke talking about her. When the two are asleep Charlotte sneaks out.

Clarke finds Bellamy and Charlotte cornered on a cliff. Clarke tries to talk Murphy down. However, Murphy grabs Clarke and holds her hostage. This scares Charlotte into letting Murphy take her. However, both Bellamy and Clarke refuse. Charlotte soon after takes her own life, so Clarke and no one else will get hurt. Clarke is shown to grieve over Charlotte.

John Murphy[]

"Okay, I'll make you a deal. You come with me right now, I will let her go."
- Murphy to Charlotte about Clarke.[src]

John Murphy, the pursuer.

Charlotte quickly became an enemy of John Murphy. Originally, Murphy and Charlotte had no interaction. When an overwhelming amount of evidence points to Murphy as the killer of Wells Jaha, Clarke confronts him and demands he tell the truth. Murphy, who is not the killer, claims he is innocent of the crime and tries to defend himself. However, a Delinquent, Murphy had upset earlier, demands Murphy be floated for the crime. A mob mentality overtakes the 100, Murphy is strung up and sentenced to die.

Meanwhile, Charlotte watches on in horror as Murphy is strung up for the crime she committed. Charlotte is quick to confess, which shocks most of the 100, allowing Clarke and Finn enough time to free Murphy. After Murphy is released, he is outraged that he almost died for a crime he did not commit. Murphy demands that Charlotte pay the price he almost did. When the 100 are reluctant to kill Charlotte, his anger turns to rage. After Murphy knocks Bellamy unconscious, he leads a group on a manhunt for Charlotte, Clarke, and Finn.

Eventually, Murphy and his group find Charlotte along with Bellamy. Charlotte watches on as Clarke tries to talk Murphy down. However, Murphy grabs Clarke and holds her hostage. This scares Charlotte and Murphy states that he will not hurt Clarke if Charlotte comes with him. Charlotte is shown to be willing to let Murphy take her. However, both Bellamy and Clarke refuse. Charlotte soon after takes her own life, so Clarke and no one else will get hurt because of what she did to Wells. Murphy is shown to be satisfied with her death. Murphy tries to explain his actions to an enraged Bellamy. Shortly after Charlotte's death Murphy is banished for the role he played in her suicide.

Notes and Trivia[]

  • Charlotte is the youngest Delinquent.
    • She was originally introduced as a 13-year-old in "Earth Kills," but this was later retconned as 12 in "Survival of the Fittest." Although, it's possible this was simply an error on Murphy's memory.
  • She was the second delinquent to end the life of another delinquent. The first was Clarke when she mercy killed Atom.
  • She was the first character to commit suicide. The second is Titus.
  • At Comic Con 2017, Eliza Taylor said she thought that Clarke and Bellamy were bad parents to Charlotte.[1]
