Alex Murphy was the father of John Murphy. He was killed by Thelonious Jaha before the Pilot for stealing medicine for his son.

Early Life

Nothing is known about Alex Murphy until after his son is born. At an unknown age, John became sick. Because they did not have much money, Alex had to resort to stealing to get the medicine for John. He was caught and floated for it. John later says the medicine did not even work.

Appearances

Alex Murphy is mentioned in quite a few episodes starting in the Pilot episode. Mostly by his son John .
Thelonious Jaha has said that he remembers Alex and implies that he feels guilty about executing him.

Trivia

Alex Murphy may be descended from The Grounder Karl Murphy.
His death likely played a role in Murphy's actions in the series.
